Polio Dose Conversions
On April 1, 2016, countries that use oral polio vaccine (OPV) switched from trivalent OPV to bivalent OPV since type 2 polio virus was declared eradicated. OPV doses given on or after 4/1/16 should not be counted towards series completion in the US.
Updates to the WAIIS forecasting tool were implemented in February 2025. These forecast updates affect the way some types of poliovirus vaccine records are evaluated by the WAIIS forecaster. For example, OPV and polio unspecified doses given on or after 4/1/16 will be incorrectly marked valid. To address this, DOH has made several conversions to affected vaccine records:

ISA Renewals
The DOH provider enrollment team is working to renew the Information Sharing Agreements (ISAs) for organizations participating in the WAIIS. Please check your records to ensure your ISAs are up to date as these agreements expire every 3 years. You may lose connectivity to the IIS if no response is received during our review and cleanup of IIS data.
If you are not up to date, click here to renew your agreement or contact pchoiisa@doh.wa.gov for any additional questions.

IIS Data Quality Tip of the Month
Testing Impact on Data Quality
Have you ever wanted to see if your interface is working correctly or to see how data might show up in the IIS? Have you created a test patient with test vaccination records in your EHR system and then sent it to the IIS? Did you do this testing in the Production system? Uh oh!
Non-Production, or Test, data should never be entered or submitted via an interface to the IIS Production system. Doing so undermines the integrity of our Production data and any population-based reports produced from the system. No one wants this!
All testing should be done in the IIS QA/Test system. You can request a temporary user account for the IIS QA/Test system to do your testing. Please email iisdataexchange@doh.wa.gov to request a test account and include a description of the testing you plan to do. If you’re testing using your EHR interface, you may need additional support from your EHR or IT support team.
If you have submitted test data in Production, it is your responsibility to remove it. Please contact iis.training@doh.wa.gov if you need help cleaning up any non-Production data you’ve created.
