AWS Outage
Directly or indirectly, many systems were impacted by an AWS outage on October 20, 2025. While the IIS did not experience an outage, we have received reports of outages in electronic health record (EHR) systems connected to the IIS. It is important to continue to review data submissions through the provider warnings and errors report to ensure data is being submitted to the IIS. If paper charting occurred during an EHR down time, data should be entered into the EHR as soon as possible. If you are unsure if your system experienced issues, we recommend reviewing records in the IIS for patients who were vaccinated during the outage or reaching out to your IT team to confirm all records have been submitted to the IIS.

Self-Administered FluMist
FDA approved AstraZeneca’s FluMist nasal spray (live attenuated influenza vaccine) for self- and caregiver-administration for persons 2 through 49 years old. A caregiver (18 years or older) should administer FluMist to children 2 through 17 years. Find out more about ordering, eligibility, insurance, shipping, administration guidance, documentation. The self-administered FluMist home program is not available through the WA Childhood Vaccine Program (CVP) or the Adult Vaccine Program (AVP).
Self-administered doses of FluMist are electronically reported to the WA Immunization Information System (WAIIS). The vaccine name is Influenza, live, trivalent, intranasal, self/caregiver admin, PF. Providers should be aware of the possibility for invalid doses and the need for a second dose for some patients. More information is below.
- There may be increased doses of FluMist, MMR, or varicella showing up as invalid due to a shorter than recommended interval between live vaccines. If not given on the same day, a 28-day minimum interval is recommended between live vaccines, including FluMist, MMR, or varicella for optimal immune response. For example, a 4-year-old patient who received self-administered FluMist, then MMR and varicella less than 28 days later will have the MMR and varicella doses flagged as invalid. The MMR and varicella doses will need to be repeated. If FluMist is given too soon after MMR or varicella, the FluMist needs to be repeated.
- In addition, a child 6 months through 8 years who did not receive 2 or more flu vaccine doses before July 1, 2025 or whose vaccination history is unknown require 2 doses of flu vaccine this season. Providers should reinforce this recommendation with parents/guardians.

New On-Demand Training for Pharmacies
The American Immunization Registry Association (AIRA) announced the launch of a new on-demand training course, made possible by an educational grant from Pfizer: Pharmacies and IIS - Making the Connection.
This 60-minute, self-paced course is designed specifically for pharmacies. This course introduces pharmacies to the importance of immunization information systems (IIS) and explores how data exchange supports patient care, public health, and pharmacy operations.
Interested learners can view the course at: https://www.immregistries.org/aira-trainings.
Learners will gain insight into why connecting to the IIS matters, what the connection process involves, and how pharmacies can make the most of IIS functionality once connected.

DOH Launches New Respiratory Immunization Dashboard for Washington State
The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is excited to announce the launch of a new Respiratory Immunization Dashboard.
Developed by DOH’s Office of Immunization Assessment and Informatics team, this updated, public-facing dashboard brings together immunization data for influenza (flu), COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) - both pediatric and adult - into one centralized location for the first time.
This new tool makes it easier for public health professionals, healthcare partners, policymakers, and the public to access and understand immunization coverage across Washington state. Users will be able to view:
- Geographic and demographic coverage rates for each respiratory immunization
- Statewide total doses administered
- Trends over time in immunization uptake
With the launch of this dashboard, the separate COVID-19, Influenza, and Respiratory Illness Immunization dashboards currently in use will be retired. The immunization section of the Respiratory Illness Data Dashboard | Washington State Department of Health will now redirect users to this new, consolidated dashboard.

ISA Renewals
The DOH provider enrollment team is working to renew the Information Sharing Agreements (ISAs) for organizations participating in the WAIIS. Please check your records to ensure your ISAs are up to date as these agreements expire every 3 years. You may lose connectivity to the IIS if no response is received during our review and cleanup of IIS data.
If you are not up to date, click here to renew your agreement or contact pchoiisa@doh.wa.gov for any additional questions.

IIS Data Quality Tip of the Month
Historical vs. Administered Vaccines
Vaccine records that are reported to the WAIIS by your clinic but were administered by a provider outside of your facility should be documented as 'Historical'. Only medically verified historical records should be submitted to the IIS. For additional information, see Documenting Historical Vaccinations in the WAIIS. Document vaccines given by a provider at your facility as 'Administered', regardless of the vaccination date.
