Polio, Unspecified Corrections
Updates to the WA IIS forecasting tool took place on February 26, 2025. WA DOH has discovered and corrected doses of ‘Polio, unspecified’ in the WA Immunization Information System (WAIIS).
The following modifications were made:
- All recorded doses of ‘Polio, unspecified’ with an administered date of 4/1/16 or later have been changed to ‘OPV bivalent’.
This ensures that the doses are correctly evaluated by the WAIIS forecaster and could result in new patients being forecasted as needing additional polio vaccine. Please vaccinate these patients with additional doses of IPV if needed to complete the series according to the Immunization Schedules | Vaccines & Immunizations | CDC. We suggest running a Coverage Rate Report to see if new patients are forecasted for IPV.
For more information on how to enter doses when IPV or OPV is not specified, refer to Polio Vaccine Documentation in the WAIIS.
Questions about this change can be directed to ImmuneNurses@doh.wa.gov.

School and Child Care Immunization Module Onboarding Pause
Due to a decrease in staffing, DOH will pause onboarding new schools and childcares to the School and Child Care Immunization Module from August 15th though the end of December. This will enable us to support existing users with the start of the new school year and annual immunization reporting. We anticipate reopening onboarding in January 2026. We will continue to accept new Information Sharing Agreements (ISA) until August 15th. If you haven’t signed up, now is a great time to do so. You can find the ISAs on www.doh.wa.gov/SchoolModule. Any ISAs submitted after August 15 will be processed in the order they are received starting in January. We appreciate your patience.

WA IIS Email Addresses for User Accounts
We have reached out to all users designated as a 'System Administrator' for help with updating all IIS user accounts without an email address. This is important as a 'Single Sign-On (SSO)' login process for the IIS will be implemented soon and having a valid email address for every WA IIS user account will help prevent potential issues with logins and password resets.
If you have an active WA IIS user account, check your email address by logging in and clicking 'Personal' in the 'Settings' menu on the left side of the screen.
Please reach out to IIS.Training@doh.wa.gov if you have any questions or need further assistance.

ISA Renewals
The DOH provider enrollment team is working to renew the Information Sharing Agreements (ISAs) for organizations participating in the WAIIS. Please check your records to ensure your ISAs are up to date as these agreements expire every 3 years. You may lose connectivity to the IIS if no response is received during our review and cleanup of IIS data.
If you are not up to date, click here to renew your agreement or contact pchoiisa@doh.wa.gov for any additional questions.

IIS Data Quality Tip of the Month
“Bad merges” occur when the system incorrectly matches two or more different individuals and merges the records. This is commonly seen with twins, siblings, and refugees.
Here are the indicators a record might be badly merged:
- A vaccine record with excessive records of the same vaccine or invalid doses.
- A record is missing in the IIS, especially if a patient has a sibling or twin with similar demographic information.
- A patient reports they did not get a vaccine that is on their record.
- A patient status is “deceased” even though they are not.
What can you do to report a bad merge? Send the IIS Data Quality team an email to iisdataquality@doh.wa.gov. We will investigate the record and let you know our findings.
