Nirsevimab Administration Ended March 31st

While the onset and duration of RSV season may vary throughout the United States, nirsevimab is typically administered October through the end of March in most of the continental US.

Healthcare providers should have stopped administration of nirsevimab as of March 31. Nirsevimab is no longer available for ordering through the Childhood Vaccine Program as of March 14, 2025.

Remaining inventory of nirsevimab is viable until its expiration date. Product should continue to be safely stored refrigerated between 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C) and can be used when administration resumes next season. More information can be found here: Frequently Asked Questions About RSV Immunization with Monoclonal Antibody for Children 19 Months and Younger | CDC

Please don't hesitate to contact us at WAChildhoodVaccines@doh.wa.gov for any questions or for assistance managing your nirsevimab inventory.

Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine Update

Novavax COVID-19 vaccine is no longer available to order. The last lot of the season will be expiring 4/30/25. Please continue to use and appropriately store any remaining stock you may have until expiry.

Spring Vaccine Choice Update

Spring Vaccine Choice has been moved to June 2025. Please keep watch for more information to be shared in future Vaccine Blurbs.

Enrolled providers have the opportunity to select the brand and presentation of vaccine they receive if there is more than one option for a vaccine type. Vaccine choice occurs when a provider first enrolls in the CVP and then twice a year thereafter.

This will now take place during June and December each year. After the Vaccine Choice period ends, it can take up to a month for order sets to be updated in the IIS.

Prevent Vaccine Waste—Make Sure Vaccines Are Placed in the Correct Storage Unit

When you receive a vaccine delivery it’s important to make sure that vaccines are placed in the correct storage unit. Immunize.org has updated a popular vaccine storage resource, the Vaccine Storage Quick Reference. This guide shows the appropriate storage temperatures for vaccines approved or authorized for routine use in the United States. We highly recommend placing a copy on each vaccine storage unit to prevent storage mistakes. For additional information on storage of COVID-19 vaccines, you can also refer to the DOH State Supplied COVID-19 Vaccines At-a-Glance.

If you have a concern about the condition of any vaccine upon arrival or while it is in storage, take action and follow the Temperature Excursion Guide or contact us at wachildhoodvaccines@doh.wa.gov for assistance. Remember, improperly stored or outdated vaccines won’t protect your patients!

OPV Unspecified Dose Correction in WAIIS

We have discovered that doses of ‘OPV-unspecified’ given before 4/16/2016 are incorrectly showing in the WAIIS as invalid. This issue occurred with the implementation of the updated WAIIS forecasting tool on February 26, 2025. We changed all ‘OPV-unspecified’ doses administered before 04/01/2016 to ‘trivalent OPV (tOPV)’. This modification will ensure these immunization records are evaluated correctly by the WAIIS forecaster.

Questions about this change can be directed to ImmuneNurses@doh.wa.gov. You can also refer to Polio Vaccine Documentation in the WAIIS. Thank you for emailing us with your questions about the forecast!
