WA State Immunization Information System (WAIIS) Forecast Implementation
The WA State Immunization Information System (WAIIS) forecast was updated on February 26, 2025. This new and improved forecasting tool resolved many forecast bugs and will allow our WAIIS technology vendor to efficiently make corrections and updates to forecasting recommendations. Please check out the Vaccination Summary & Forecast Quick Reference Guide to get more details about these changes.
After the forecast was updated, we were notified of a few bugs that we’re already working with our WAIIS vendor to address:
- Patients who are complete with their vaccine series for school or childcare are showing as Conditional rather than Complete on the Certificate of Immunization Status.
- OPV, unspecified doses given before 4/1/16 are incorrectly marked as invalid. Please refer to the Polio Vaccine Documentation Quick Reference Guide for more information.
- For children who complete their PCV series, the Pneumococcal row in the Vaccination Forecast section will show the next dose as due at age 50 per ACIP (Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices) recommendations.
- Vaccines with Lab Evidence of Immunity not marked as permanent are listed as needed in the forecast.
Please send an email to immunenurses@doh.wa.gov if you have any questions or concerns. We appreciate all of you for letting us know of potential bugs so we can log a ticket with our WAIIS vendor. Thank you for all your efforts to ensure that immunizations are complete and accurate in WAIIS! We really appreciate all you do to promote vaccinations in our state!

IZ Gateway Updates
Washington has been participating in the CDC’s Immunization Gateway Project (IZ Gateway) since 2022. This project aims to connect states with federal providers that span multiple jurisdictions and with other state Immunization Information Systems. As of February 2025, Washington is receiving near-real-time data from 11 state jurisdictions (AK, AZ, DC, IN, LA, MS, OH, PR, SD, WV, WY) and 3 federal partners (VHA, DoD, and EDN). The Veterans Health Administration and the Department of Defense are not submitting data for active service members. We also recently received historical data from VHA for immunization histories captured prior to our connection being established.
Over half a million vaccination update messages that we otherwise would not have received have been submitted via the IZ Gateway. These data submissions have improved the completeness of patient records in the IIS that will assist providers when assessing immunization needs for these patient groups. We look forward to connecting to our border jurisdictions in the future which will provide more complete data for providers offering immunization services along the Oregon and Idaho borders. Additional connections with other state IISs are expected to follow as those connections become available.
ISA Renewals
The DOH provider enrollment team is working to renew the Information Sharing Agreements (ISAs) for organizations participating in the WAIIS. Please check your records to ensure your ISAs are up to date as these agreements expire every 3 years. You may lose connectivity to the IIS if no response is received during our review and cleanup of IIS data.
If you are not up to date, click here to renew your agreement or contact pchoiisa@doh.wa.gov for any additional questions.

Test Patient Data
If you have known test patients, please delete these vaccination records and inactivate the patient in the IIS.
