The Washington State Department of Health's Power of Providers (POP) initiative invites you to participate in an upcoming webinar, Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy in Rural Communities: Part Two on Wednesday, November 13, from noon to 1:00 p.m.
Vaccinations have become a polarizing topic that can impact immunization rates around the country, particularly in rural areas. In this webinar, health communication experts Dr. Anya Sheftel and Dr. Erica Austin from Washington State University will continue their discussion on how to support patients with their personal decision making about vaccines. Providers are welcome to attend part two even if they missed part one in the series.
A recording of the first webinar in the series will be available soon on POP's webinar page.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Illustrate strategies to evoke and reinforce "change talk" during brief interactions with patients.
- Employ motivational interviewing (MI) skills and strategies during patient interactions, including how to use MI to provide evidence-based information about vaccines and science media literacy.
- Evaluate feedback from other participants on practicing MI skills.
- Create a plan for how they will use the Getting to the Heart and Mind of the Matter Toolkit to assist them in their interactions with patients and health promotion efforts.
The webinar will be recorded and offers live ASL interpretation. Continuing education credit is available for nurses (RNs, LPNs, ARNPs), medical assistants (MAs), pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, allopathic physicians (MDs), osteopathic physicians (DOs), physician assistants (PAs), and naturopathic physicians (NDs).

Here's what participants are saying about part one of this series:
"Every now and then I look at my MI textbook from 23 years ago sitting on my bookshelf. Now I am motivated to dust it off and review it! Thank you!"
"I thought it was excellent and well planned. Very useful information and framework for engaging with others."
