As part of FDA’s actions, the 2023–2024 Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines are no longer authorized for use in the United States. To minimize the risk of vaccine administration errors, providers should:
- Remove all 2023–2024 mRNA COVID-19 vaccines from storage units immediately, even if they are not expired.
- Return all unused 2023–2024 mRNA COVID-19 vaccines using the normal process for returning spoiled/expired vaccines in the IIS.
- 2023-2024 Moderna vaccines ordered prior to the authorization of the 2024-2025 vaccines and that are currently in transit may reach providers over the next 1-2 days. Providers should accept COVID-19 vaccine orders if they receive them post-FDA action. Providers should return these vaccines using the normal process for returning spoiled/expired vaccines in the IIS.

- 2023–2024 Novavax COVID-19 vaccine remains authorized but is no longer available in the United States, as all doses have expired. Accordingly, at this time, CDC recommendations for use of Novavax COVID-19 vaccine have been removed. CDC recommendations will be updated if FDA approves or authorizes additional 2024–2025 COVID-19 vaccines.
- We anticipate that Novavax will be available this season in an updated strain and delivery presentation, pending FDA authorization. AVP will offer the Novavax vaccine as an option for providers to request, once authorized, to make a non-MRNA COVID-19 vaccine option available through the program.

AVP flu ordering is now open in the IIS. Supply remains limited and orders may be reduced or held until additional supply is received.
Use this AVP COVID-19 and Influenza Vaccine Ordering & Receiving Guide (PDF) to help you create flu orders electronically and receive them into your inventory in the IIS.
The AVP vaccine request opportunity for non-COVID/non-flu vaccines remains open. The last day to place an AVP vaccine request for this order cycle will be on Tuesday September 3rd. Please submit your requests as soon as you are able.
In order to receive an allocation of AVP vaccine, your facility’s provider agreement and accountability must be current. This includes the submission of up-to-date inventory in the IIS, and temperature log submission in Redcap, including any outstanding items. Please ensure that your facility inventory is accurate in the IIS, as current inventory can affect a site's allocation.
If we have reached out to you regarding missing accountability items, please complete them as soon as possible as they will prevent you from receiving a vaccine allocation.
