This email is being sent to approved COVID-19 Vaccine Program Providers, and Local Health Jurisdictions.
Dear COVID-19 Vaccine Providers,
COVID-19 vaccines for children ages 6 months to 5 years of age could be authorized, recommended, and available in Washington State as early as June 20, 2022. Provider ordering for these vaccines starts today. This is an update from what we recently shared on our Partner Call so please review the information below to make sure you are ready to vaccinate your patients when the vaccine is available.
When can I order vaccines?
Vaccine ordering opens today at 2:00 pm! Vaccine Ordering for Moderna (Blue Cap) 6mos-5yrs and Pfizer (Maroon Cap) 6mos-4yrs will be available to order in the WAIIS the afternoon of June 9, 2022 and will remain open. Vaccine requests will be reviewed during the routine ordering cycle on Mondays and Thursdays.
- Orders placed and approved between June 9 and June 13th at 12pm will be sent to the CDC for fulfillment on June 13th. Orders placed after 12pm June 13th through Sunday June 19th will be held until EUA approval, anticipated Monday, June 20th. Please note, orders will still be approved during the routine ordering window to ensure the quickest fulfillment timeline.
- Orders placed during the time period before EUA approval will begin arriving on June 21st.
- Most vaccine depots will have supply available for transfer if providers wish to receive less than the minimum order of 100 doses. FAQs: How Providers Can Request COVID-19 Vaccine from Depots (wa.gov)
Do I have an approved temperature log for the month of May?
Providers wishing to participate in pediatric vaccination activities must be enrolled in the COVID-19 Vaccine Program. Please note that one of the program requirements is the submission of acceptable temperature logs in order to retain your facility’s ordering and transferring privileges. If you have not received a link to your COVID-19 Vaccine Program Monthly Temperature Log Submission form, please contact us at covid.vaccine@doh.wa.gov.
Why are we anticipating an approval date of June 20, 2022?
All COVID-19 vaccines go through an approval process to ensure the vaccines are safe and effective for the public. The vaccine manufacturers must submit their new vaccine data for review by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and Western States Scientific Safety Review Work Group (WSSRW). The FDA Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) meeting will be held June 15, 2022 and the other groups will meet in the following days if the FDA authorizes the extended age ranges under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).
If you have any questions or require guidance and support, please email us at covid.vaccine@doh.wa.gov.
