The Washington Department of Ecology has issued a statewide emergency drought declaration as projected water supplies are likely to fall far short of the state’s summer demand. The Water Division of the Public Works Department has taken a proactive approach in response to the current drought outlook. This year’s potentially record-low snowpack is being closely monitored and is not taken lightly.
For more than a decade, the City has been committed to water efficiency through strategic improvements, including aggressive leak detection, pipe replacements, and metering upgrades, reducing water loss by roughly 900 million gallons each year. This sustained effort has significantly strengthened the City’s water system, improving resiliency and reducing water loss in the face of drought.
Before the summer heat arrives, take a moment to review how and when you are using water.
