Community Transit bus on northbound I-5 approaching Mountlake Terrace Transit Center

Transit Shoulder Driving Coming to I-5

In a few weeks, Community Transit and Sound Transit bus riders will have the opportunity to save a few minutes on their morning commute to Seattle when I-5 congestion is at its worst.

Crews are working to outfit the southbound inside shoulder lane for transit use between the Lynnwood Transit Center and Mountlake Transit Center Freeway Station. On days when HOV lane traffic is barely moving, buses will be allowed to use the two transit center ramps and the shoulder lane to bypass about 3 miles of stop-and-go traffic.

The project is one of the first funded by the voter-approved ST3 transit package, and is a model for other transit shoulder driving projects around the Puget Sound region.

Community Transit's Safety Star Award

Fewer and Less Serious Accidents Result in Safety Star Award

The Washington State Transit Insurance Pool has awarded Community Transit with a Safety Star Award for reduced claims from vehicle accidents.

WSTIP represents 25 transit agencies in the state that combine their resources to provide insurance coverage, manage claims and receive risk management and training.

To recognize its members who go above and beyond in reducing liability claims, WSTIP established the Safety Star Award in 2014; Community Transit has won the award twice since then. As a reward, the agency gets $5,000 to be spent recognizing its employees for their achievement.

New Everett Recruitment Office

Agency Opens New Recruitment Office by Everett Mall; Job Fair is Oct. 24

Community Transit is upping the ante in its efforts to recruit new drivers and other employees. This month, the agency is opening a new recruitment office by the Everett Mall to make it easier for applicants to learn about transit employment opportunities.

The new office is in the Everett Mall Office Park III building at 906 Evergreen Way, Suite 450. The office building is behind Applebee’s restaurant and a block from the Everett Mall.

Community Transit will be holding a Job Fair and Open House at the new office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24. People interested in applying to be a bus driver, journey mechanic, planning manager or other open position are invited to bring their resumes and learn more about the agency and how to apply.

Community Transit is hiring as it expands service. The agency is launching the Swift Green Line, its second bus rapid transit line in spring 2019.

Community Transit staff will be at stops to survey riders

Tell Us About Your Bus Stop Experience

From October 9-11, Community Transit staff and partners will be talking to bus riders about their bus stop experience.

Interviewers will be at bus stops from Aurora Village to Lynnwood to Smokey Point asking about comfort, security, seating, shelter, wait times, etc. The information will be used to create a broader survey that will be sent to even more riders to gain a good understanding about how riders use and view our bus stops.

Customers who agree to participate in the bus stop interviews will receive a $10 Starbucks gift card.
