Sen. Patty Murray, Boeing Executive Help Break Ground on Swift Green Line

Swift Green Line Groundbreaking

U.S. Senator Patty Murray, Boeing VP Elizabeth Lund, Community Transit Board members, and other dignitaries break ground on Swift Green Line

Noting that a federal grant is paying more than half of the Swift Green Line’s $73 million cost, U.S. Senator Patty Murray said continued federal investment is important to ensuring strong public transportation.

Murray joined the Boeing Company’s top Everett executive and other dignitaries to break ground on Community Transit’s Swift Green Line on Thursday.

The Swift Green Line will be the second bus rapid transit line (BRT) in Snohomish County when it opens in early 2019. Swift buses will run every 10 minutes.

The Swift Green Line will serve Snohomish County’s two largest job centers, the Paine Field manufacturing center in Everett and the high-tech and healthcare center at Canyon Park in Bothell.

“As a voice for our state in Congress, I'm proud to work with partners at the state and local level to connect our communities with safe and efficient transportation systems that meet the demands of a 21st century economy and address the ever-increasing congestion commuters are experiencing,” said Murray, who sits on the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee.

Everett Transit Stop to Close Near Seaway Transit Center Construction Site

Storm water retention vault

Crews have finished excavating for a storm water retention vault. Side walls and a floor slab will be built over the next few weeks. Coming up at the Seaway Transit Center site:

  • July 10, the Everett Transit bus stop on south side of 75th Street between the PUD and Seaway will be closed.

Now-Mid-July:

  • PUD and Frontier are installing temporary poles and services to provide temporary data to the project site.
  • Demolition of the sidewalk along 75th Street will take place for the new storm catch basins to be installed. This will cause lane closures on 75th between Seaway and Hardeson. Watch for flaggers on the roadway.
  • Installation of temporary traffic signal poles on 75th Street.

Mid-July: Work begins to narrow the lanes and begin construction on the south side of 75th Street for the new left turn lane. There will be a new stop light on 75th for the PUD and  the new Seaway Transit Center.

Sidewalk Closes at 128th Street Construction Site

128th Construction

Work on the south side of 128th Street west of I-5 has begun. To help speed buses along the Swift Green Line, new right-hand lanes are being created on 128th Street approaching I-5 in south Everett. There will be one new lane on each side of the freeway.

  • Now: Crews are demolishing the sidewalk and it is now closed to pedestrians on the south side of 128th between 4th Ave and I-5. Crews are installing a new water main. Pedestrians can cross to the north side of 128th in order to travel east/west.
  • Now–Mid-July: Crews will be placing temporary street lights in order to remove existing street lights where the new travel lane will be built.
  • All businesses in the area will continue to be open during construction.

Swift Network Map with Swift Green Line

Swift Green Line to Connect Bothell and Paine Field

Swift is Community Transit's Bus Rapid Transit service.

Washington State’s first bus rapid transit line opened in November 2009. The Swift Blue Line serves a 17-mile route between Everett and Shoreline. It provides fast, frequent and reliable service whether you are traveling from Everett to Lynnwood, Edmonds to Shoreline or anywhere in between.

The Swift Green Line will serve a 12.5-mile route between Paine Field/Boeing and Canyon Park/ Bothell. It is expected to begin service in early 2019.

The Swift Green Line will provide appealing choices for people to travel without a car. Because stations are further apart and fares are paid at the station, Swift buses offer rail-like quickness.

Not only will this route offer fast, frequent service to those living or working between Bothell and Boeing, but the connection to the Swift Blue Line will greatly expand the ease of transit use in our region.

The Swift Green Line will cross the Swift Blue Line at Airport Road and Highway 99, establishing a Swift network.

More Swift lines to the north and east of our county are planned for the future.
