On July 23, 2018, Island County Sheriff’s Office Deputies
arrested 31 year old Ernie M Chavez Jr., a sailor stationed at NAS Whidbey Island, for Rape of a Child in the Third
Degree for sexually assaulting a 14 year old
boy in a neighborhood North East of Oak Harbor. Chavez was detained at the scene by the victim’s family and
witnesses until law enforcement arrived.
Chavez was taken into custody and transported to the Island County Jail where we was booked and held on the charges. Chavez will make in first court appearance today, July 24, 2018, in Island County Superior Court.
Chavez met the victim and arranged their meeting using the cell phone dating application Grinder.
