PRESS RELEASE 8/2/2017:
On August 2 2017, at approximately 11:00 AM, deputies from the Island County Sheriff's Office Camano Island precinct responded to a residence on Sandy Drive for a report of a home invasion robbery. The residents reported that an unknown male suspect drove his vehicle through their locked driveway gate and threatened them with a firearm that they believed to be a shotgun.
The suspect confronted the couple in the front yard, then forced them inside the residence at gunpoint where he duct taped their hands and legs together. The suspect stole a large amount of cash then fled the scene. The couple, a 57 year old male, and 60 year old female were able to escape a short time later and call the police. Both were shaken up but otherwise unharmed.
The suspect is described as a white male in his twenties, taller (over 6'00) with a thin build. He was wearing dark clothing and a mask during the robbery. His vehicle is described as a "shiny" black, mid sized to large SUV (unknown make or model). The vehicle should have visible front and side damage from driving through the gate.
Based on the evidence located so far, it appears that this was not a random act and the victim's were specifically targeted.
We are following several leads and will release any additional information when it becomes available.
Anyone with information as to the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Sheriff's office via the ICOM dispatch center at 360-679-9567, or via e-mail at tips@co.island.wa.us.
