Press Release 06/07/2017:
On June 7th 2017, at approximately 12:23 PM, the Island County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that a wanted person (Bryan MCCORD) was in the park and ride lot near the Liberty Market on SR 20 in Oak Harbor. The responding deputy Identified MCCORD as the passenger in a vehicle that was attempting to leave the parking lot. The deputy exited his vehicle and ordered the driver to stop, instead the driver accelerated and left the parking lot heading towards Oak Harbor on SR 20. The deputy activated his emergency equipment and attempted to stop the fleeing vehicle. The vehicle left the highway and continued onto NE Regatta drive. Due to the reckless manner in which the fleeing vehicle was being operated, the deputy elected to terminate the pursuit.
The vehicle continued on South Bound at a high rate of speed on Torpedo road where it struck a vehicle entering the intersection from Crescent Harbor Rd. MCCORD and the driver of the fleeing vehicle, who has been identified as 31 year old Brandon ROTH, exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, they were apprehended a short time later.
The Washington State Patrol is handling the collision investigation. While at the scene, law enforcement observed what appeared to be a large quantity of narcotics in the vehicle ROTH was driving. Detectives are applying for a warrant to search the vehicle and recover the items. All three people involved in the accident, MCCORD, ROTH and the driver of the other vehicle have non-life threatening injuries.
Any questions regarding the collision should be directed to the Washington State Patrol.
