Calling all volunteers!
The City is hosting a Fall Planting Project at Fenster Nature Park on Saturday, October 11 beginning at 8:00 a.m. This volunteer effort will entail planting and mulching approximately 8,000 native plants at the Fenster Nature Park along the Green River. Volunteers can register on-line via the City’s website to participate in the envioronmental project.


Save The Date! Auburn’s 49th annual Veterans Day Parade & Observance is planned for Saturday, November 8. In addition to the 11:00 a.m. parade, there’s a community breakfast, a Static Display & Exhibit Showcase, a Remembrance Ceremony and more. Complete event information (including on-line parade registration) can be found online. The application deadline is Friday, October 3.

Everyone’s favorite Halloween event is back! The FREE Halloween Harvest Festival is planned for Saturday, October 25th from 2:00–5:00pm at Washington Elementary, 20 E Street NE. This haunting event will include games, crafts, face painting, scary cookies, and cauldrons of punch! Your little goblin will not want to miss this spook-tacular event!


Parents’ Night Out!
returns this fall on a Saturday night (Oct. 18, Nov. 22 & Dec. 20) from 5-10pm. Drop your kids off at the Gymnasium at Les Gove Park for an evening of games, arts & crafts, inflatable toys and sports while you enjoy a parent night out. All activities will be facilitated and supervised by trained staff who have undergone a Washington State Patrol background check. Kids in the Parents’ Night Out program will have exclusive use of the gym. For ages 4-11. Fee: $16/$20 first child; $10/$12 each additional sibling.


Wrap Up Holiday Event Plans Now! The Millennium Room in Auburn’s Les Gove Park awaits your upcoming family or corporate holiday events.  Reasonable rates and a scenic park setting combined with the perfect party venue for groups of 40-200. Adult Programs

Resolve to stretch, flex and play this winter! Check out Belly Dance, Pilates, or Tai Chi. Get fit in a Combative Training for Self Defense. Learn to take photos, paint with watercolors or mixed media, rock climb and much more. Check out Auburn @ Play to view all the programs being offered this session.

  • Belly Dance –Middle Eastern bellydance is a low impact form of dance appropriate for all ages and body types and backgrounds. Wednesdays, 6:00-7:00p, October 1-November 5, $45/$57; Senior discount fees $50/$63.
  • Digital Photography 201 - The Next Step If you took the Photography 101 class, you learned the basics of photography in the classroom. Now it's time to get outside and put your knowledge to work. Fee is $40/$50.
  • Beginning Pilates – For new Pilates students, learn the basic principals of STOTT Pilates.  Controlled movements focus on stretching and strengthening the muscles in your abdomen, back, buttocks and legs.  Mondays, 5:30-6:30p, October 27-December 1, $62/$78.
  • Introduction to Tai Chi – Mental and physical benefits include low impact strength building, flexibility and coordination.  Mondays, 7:30-8:30p, October 13-November 10, $44/$55; senior discount fees $39/$49.
  • Intermediate Tai Chi – For those who have graduated from the Introduction to Tai Chi class and want to refine and work into more advanced movements.  Mondays, 6:15-7:15p, October 13-November 10, $44/$55; senior discount fees $39/$49.
  • Combative Training for Self Defense – Basic training in three unique contemporary martial disciples, Aikido, Brazilian Ju-Jitsu and Combative Martial Arts.  Training is strictly defensive and non-competitive.  Conditioning and stretching is built into class.  Tuesdays, 7-8:30p, October 28-December 16, $46/$58.
  • Yoga in the Viniyoga Tradition – Viniyoga tradition relieves stress, tones the body and helps achieve balance in body, mind and emotions.  Wednesdays, 6-7:15p, November 5-December 17, $68/$85; senior discount fee $63/$79.  Flex Option available.
  • Zentangle – Inspired Art – New - Come and explore your creative side with Zentangle Inspired Art.  You will learn how to make creative designs by drawing structured patterns and doodles on Saturday, October 4, 9:30a-12:30p, at the Les Gove Park Building. The fee is $30/$38.

Sports & Athletics

Registrations are now being accepted for the youth sports programs including:

  • Select Basketball League: This is a competitive league for 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th grade, team registration only. This is a combined league with Sumner & Puyallup.  Practice start in November games in December, $565 per team.
  • Elementary Cross Country : A new recreational running program for K-5th grade boys and girls.  Runners will learn the proper techniques for warming up, running and cooling down at practices.  Participants will run a variety of distances from 800-1500m.  The program will be held at Les Gove Park.  And includes an invitational meet.  $40/$50; fee includes WA State Sales Tax.  Fee waiver available for qualifying families in the Auburn city limits.
  • Girls Volleyball – 3rd-5th grade: Recreational girls volleyball practices and games will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  Practices are scheduled to start the week of October 18.  Games are scheduled to begin the week of December 2.  Teams will play six matches, best of three games, rally scoring.  Volunteers are recruited to coach.  $50/$60; fee includes WA State Sales Tax.  Fee waiver available for qualifying families in the Auburn city limits.
  • Flag Football – 3rd-8th grade: Recreational all pass non-contact flag football practices and games will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings.  Practices are scheduled to start the week of November 17.  Games are scheduled to begin the week of January 5, 2015.  Teams will play six games.  Volunteers are recruited to coach.  $10 early bird discount if registered by October 29.  $50/$60; fee includes WA State Sales Tax.  Fee waiver available for qualifying families in the Auburn city limits.

Sponsors are being sought for youth athletic teams for the fall. Sponsors receive their business or organization name and logo on a T-shirt uniform, an 8x10 team photo plaque and the benefit of helping youth enjoy a positive recreation experience. The sponsorship fee is $195 per team.

 

The Gymnasium at Les Gove Park offers a variety of activities:

  • Adult Open Gym: Monday & Wednesday, 12:00pm-1:30pm; Tuesday & Thursday: 11:30 am-1:30pm, ages 18 and over. Mon/Wed is Pickleball and Basketball, Tues/Thurs is Volleyball and Basketball.
  • Adult Open Gym. Ages 18 & over, Mondays, 5:30-8:30pm
  • Family Open Gym Friday’s, 5:30-8:30pm
  • Intermural Basketball for teens: Monday-Friday 2:30-5:00pm, Monday-Friday

Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation is now taking registrations for the following adult sports:

  • Fall Flag Football League: Six players per side on a modified field play eight league games, one per week with division leaders advancing to end of season playoffs.  Three levels of play offered from highly competitive to recreational.  High School Association Officiated games are played on turf fields.  Sundays, September 14-November 16, game start times range between 9:00am-12:45pm.  $650/team fee, includes WA State Sales Tax.  18 and older.
  • Coed Volleyball League: Coed recreational league.  Teams will play eight league matches, best of three games, rally scoring, in this self-officiated league.  Minimum of two ladies on the court.  Fridays, October 3-November 21, game start times range between 6:00-8:30pm.  $135/team fee, includes WA State Sales Tax.  18 and over.
  • Women’s Volleyball League: Women’s recreational league.  Teams will play eight league matches, best of three games, rally scoring, in this self-officiated league.  Fridays, October 3-November 21, game start times range between 6:00-8:30pm.  $135/team fee, includes WA State Sales Tax.  18 and over.
  • Futsal (coed indoor Soccer): 10 games, the league begins November 20, $200 per team. $25 discount if registered by November 5.

Toddler, Pre-School & Elementary Kids

Toddler Indoor Playground - For ages 5 and under. Bring your child for socialization and fun! We provide balls, games, mats, riding toys, climbing toys and more in our gym. Hours are Mon., Wed., & Fri. – 9:30-11 a.m. Cost is $2 per child per session, $1 per additional child. 10-visit punch pass also available. No more than three children per adult. No registration required. Parent or caregiver must provide supervision of children at all times.

 

Parents’ Night Out! returns this fall on a Saturday night (Oct. 18, Nov. 22 & Dec. 20) from 5-10pm. Preschool Classes: New this Fall!

  • Busy Bees – New two days a week for ages 3-5. This class will be a great way to prepare little ones for Kindergarten through crafts, games, songs and story time. Develop creativity and self-expression through PLAY on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Nov 4-Dec 18, 10:45a-12:15p, at the Les Gove Park Building. The fee is $125/$157.
  • Ballerina Enchantment: Ages 3-6: Dance, Dance and more Dance – Come dance with us and have a magical time on Saturdays, Nov 8-Dec 6, Ages 3-4 – 9:15-10:15a, Ages 5-6 – 10:30-11:30a, at the Parks, Arts & Recreation Administration Building. The fee is $66/$83.
  • Creative Movement: Ballet & Ballroom: Young dancers, 3-6 years will enjoy a class that focuses on movement, creative expression and fun!  Learn ballroom dances and rhythms, as well as ballet basics. Learn to dance as individuals, with a partner, and in a group setting on Mondays, Oct 6-27, 5-6p, at Pacific Ballroom Dance. The fee is $50/$63,
  • Small Fry: Toddlers 1-3 and parents come have fun meeting new friends and playing too. Explore crafts, painting, music and more in this semi structured class. Thursdays, Nov 6-Dec 18, 9:15-10a, at the Les Gove Park Building. The fee is $45/$57.
  • Ooey Gooey Adventure: Children ages 2-4 and parents here is your chance to come get gooey with us! Every mom’s nightmare and every child’s dream. Have fun with crafts, painting, games, music and more. Wear old clothes. Tuesdays, Nov 4-Dec 16, 9-10a, at the Les Gove Park Building. The fee is $45/$57.
  • Wiggle Worms: Ages 2-3 and parent: Come get your wiggles out and have fun movin’ and grovin’. Wear comfy clothes with extra wiggle room. Thursdays, Nov 6-Dec 4, 5:30-6:15p, at the Les Gove Park Building. The fee is $66/$83.
  • Let’s Play Sports – These fun classes are a good way to introduce your children ages 3-4 to sports for the first time. Options include Soccer and Football. Classes are held either Tuesday or Thursday, depending on the sport, from 5:30-6:15pm.

 

Youth Classes: New this Fall!

Kids Ballroom Dance: Kids grades 1-3 will have fun learning a variety of ballroom and Latin dances designed just for them on Thursdays, Sep 4-25, 5-6p, at Pacific Ballroom Dance. The fee is $50/$63.


Youth Dance Mix:
Kids ages 6-9 will have fun in our “dance mix” class exploring everything from ballet to Broadway including some hip hop and even baton twirling. Class meets Saturdays, Sep 27-Nov 1, 11:45a-12:45p, at the Parks, Arts & Recreation Administration Building. The fee is $50/$63.

Gymnastic classes begin again in September. New sessions begin the week of October 6.


Are you looking for Before or After School Care? Around the Bell serves the following schools on site at Washington Elementary: Arthur Jacobsen, Hazelwood, Lea Hill,  Dick Scobee, Evergreen Heights, Ilalko, Terminal Park, Washington and now serving Lakeland Hills. We serve grades 1-5 and most all day Kindergartners- call for specific schools. We are open at 6:30 am and close at 6:00 pm. Five day and Three day options available. Registrations are now underway. Teens & Tweens

Open gym basketball, tournaments, music, karaoke, theme rooms, arts and crafts and free food make up Auburn Late Night for teens in grades 6 through 12. Look for the free Late Night activities as follows:

  • October 11 - Auburn Riverside High, 501 Oravetz Rd., 6-11 p.m.
  • October 18 – Auburn High School, 700 E. Main Street, 6-11 p.m.
  • November 1 - Auburn Riverside High, 501 Oravetz Rd., 6-11 p.m.


Auburn students are in the spotlight during the Reaching Out Fair on Thursday, October 9 from 6-8:30 p.m. at Auburn Performing Arts Center, 700 East Main St. This free event features a resource and information fair followed by student performances, programs, and testimonials. Bring your friends and family, enjoy some pizza, and enter to win great prizes.


Middle and high school students are encouraged to check out the after school basketball program at the PRAB Gymnasium from 2:45-5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. Daily drop in fee is just $1.


Auburn’s Youth Council constantly welcomes new members. The Youth Council volunteers at local events, helps collaborate on ideas that benefit Auburn and takes on other active roles in the community. Call 253-804-5052 for details and an application.

Monday October 6  We still have room on our golf trip down to the Home Course in Dupont The Home Course is a beautiful golf course that is great for players of all skill levels from beginner’s to experienced players. We will have an independent lunch at Farrellis Wood Fired Pizza before we tee off. Lunch, green fees, cart rental, and golf club rentals are on your own.  $11 to walk, $20 to ride and club rentals range from $17-$34


Friday October 10- Seattle Sounders vs Vancouver Whitecaps We still have tickets to one of the best sporting events in the Seattle area. All sports fan should experience the enjoyment of a Seattle Sounders game at least once. Sounders are taking on one of their arch rivals so the atmosphere will be even better.

Halloween Lunch – October 31
Plan to be on hand for our annual visit from the Daycare
kids. They will parade in costume through the Center as we distribute treats to our younger guests. Next enjoy lunch with a special Halloween menu. Those dressed in costume will get a special treat. Pre-purchase tickets at the front desk. Cost: $3 suggested donation for those 60 and over/$6 for those under 60

White River Valley Museum

New Exhibit: Sole Obsession: 100 years of Women’s Shoes from Kitten Heels to Power Pumps on exhibit through November 9.


Late Play Date
, October 2, 6–8p.m: Late Play Dates are perfect for kids age 3 – 12. Families will enjoy free admission to the museum as well as craft stations and activities, no registration required.


Northwest Pacific Railroad Lecture
October 3: Join train enthusiasts and experts for an in-depth look at railroading history. Museum open house is from
6 – 7 p.m. and the lecture will be from 7 – 10 p.m. $5 adults/ $3 child and senior, no registration needed.


God Save My Shoes Documentary Screening
, October 23: Explore the intimate relationship between women and their shoes in this documentary featuring interviews with pop stars, fashion designers and the shoe obsessed. White River Valley Museum
, is located in the Les Gove Community Campus at 918 H Street SE.  The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. On the first Thursday of each month the hours are extended from 6 to 8 p.m. Regular admission is: $5 adults, $2 seniors and children, children 2 years of age or younger are always free.
