Scoping comment period ends April 5 on the Algona Transfer Station Replacement Project
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — March 28, 2012 Distributed in the community interest for King County Solid Waste Division
A regional, multi-year planning effort by the King County Solid Waste Division led to the decision to replace the Algona Transfer Station with a new recycling and transfer station in the south King County area.
The King County Solid Waste Division’s project team has undertaken a comprehensive search for sites on which to build a new facility that would replace the current Algona Station. The new station would be located in or near the same communities that are served by the current Algona station - Algona, Auburn, Federal Way and Pacific.
The King County Solid Waste Division will prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for this project. The scope of the EIS identifies three potential sites as “Action Alternatives” for the location of a new recycling and transfer station. The three potential sites are located at:
- 901 C St. SW, Auburn
- 35101 West Valley Hwy. S., Algona
- 28721 West Valley Hwy. S., Auburn
A “No Action” Alternative, which would retain the current Algona Transfer Station at 35315 West Valley Hwy. S., Algona 98001, is also included in the EIS.
In response to community interest about the project, the Solid Waste Division extended the scoping comment period for the project a second time to April 5.Citizens wishing to submit a comment, please use the online comment form.
