Welcome Holiday Inn Express!!

Holiday Inn ribbon cutting

Yesterday, Councilmember Bob Baggett, City staff and representatives from the Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed the new Holiday Inn Express to Auburn at their official ribbon cutting ceremony.

The hotel is owned by the Woo family and opened in early August to the public.

This is our newest hotel in the downtown area with 120 rooms, an indoor pool, a fitness center, guest laundry and meeting rooms. It's also pet friendly!

Welcome Holiday Inn! We're excited to have you as part of our growing city!

Day of Concern for the Hungry

Check presentation

Thursday morning, I was joined by Laura Moser from Waste Management and Debbie Christian from the Auburn Food Bank for the unofficial start of the 2019 Mayor's Day of Concern for the Hungry where Laura kicked-off the event by presenting the Auburn Food Bank with a check for $1,500.

If you aren't familiar with Mayor's Day of Concern, each year Waste Management joins with mayors in our region to increase awareness of food insecurity in our communities and offers residents the opportunity to participate in a food drive by placing donations out for pickup next to their carts on their collection day.

Employee of the Year

Employees of the Year

Each fall, City of Auburn staff gather together during their lunch hour to celebrate the great work that has been accomplished throughout the year and to recognize the outstanding staff that make that work possible.

Each year, staff from every department nominate and vote for a member of their group to be named Employee of the Year. From that group of winners, a city-wide Employee of the Year is also chosen.

This year, as always, there was stiff competition between the departments with dozens of amazing nominations from co-worker to co-worker.

Here are the winners from this year's event:

  • Jim Ferguson - Administration
  • Brenda Goodson-Moore - Finance
  • Dane Carson - IT
  • Megan Stockdale - Legal
  • Matt Wilkinson - PD
  • Rachael McAlister - Parks, Arts & Recreation
  • Michele Weiss & Seth Loop (tie) - Public Works
  • Terry Mendoza - HR
  • Tina Kriss - Community Development

An extra-special congratulations goes to Jim Ferguson, who was chosen from the group as the city-wide Employee of the Year. Jim has served the City for more than 20 years and is one of our building maintenance technicians.

That's a Wrap

Summer Cruise In

Yesterday, we held our final Summer Cruise-In of the season at Les Gove Park and had more than 60 cars participate! Summer may be on it's way out, but I can't wait to see you all out there again next year.
