Earlier this week, my beautiful daughter Lucky turned 21. Of course, my husband Kemon and I are proud parents of her accomplishments, but mostly for the gracious and compassionate young woman she has become. Nobody, Baby! NOBODY!

This afternoon, Chief Pierson and I welcomed the newest member of the Auburn Police Department to the team!
Officer Jonathan Faddis was second in his class at the academy and was first in Police Practical skills.
Welcome, Officer Faddis! We are honored to have you on board.

Last night, we opened the first session of our Civics Academy with myself and Director of Administration Dana Hinman providing the foundation for the group in our Government 101 presentation.
If you aren't familiar with Civics Academy, it is an 11-week course that we host for residents to learn more about the inner workings of government, and in particular, our city. Each week is spent doing a deep dive into the different departments and learning about what they do. There's even field trips!
This is our largest class to date with 33 people registered. It is a lively, diverse and curious group that we will enjoy working with this fall.
One exercise we did was a word cloud activity that asked “What words do you think of when you think of government?” Above is the completed cloud. We are going to ask the same question in the final session to see if it changes!
