Envisioning a place for the community to gather in downtown Auburn to enjoy and celebrate arts & culture!
As Auburn's historic downtown continues to grow and evolve, the community continues to imagine opportunities to revitalize the heart of downtown Auburn and the 100 year old traditional Main Street. One such idea is a vibrant art-filled Auburn Arts Alley, located between the Auburn Avenue Theater and the future Arts & Culture Center.
An initial vision for the project was completed in collaboration with the University of Washington's Urban Design Program as part of the 2017 Livable City Year with the City of Auburn. The vision is becoming even more tangible as the City of Auburn is in consideration of grant funding for the project from the new 4Culture Creative Consultancies program. After a competitive first round of grant applications, Auburn was selected to work with artist Kathleen Fruge Brown on the community outreach and final grant project proposal in hopes of receiving grant funding for some artistic elements of the project. .
We are currently seeking input from the local community as Fruge Brown works to design artistic components for the alley, collaborating with local artists and cultural communities.

The alley could feature artistically treated pavers incorporating poetry from local poets, culturally-inspired lantern lighting made in cooperation with the City's MakerSpace, custom seating and stage created by the local college, or murals by local visual artists. The intent is for the space to contain artistic representations of our diverse community, created with the community for all to enjoy.

The Auburn Arts Alley could be used as a community gathering space and serve as a means to enhance Auburn's cultural vitality in an extraordinary way.
