August 2018 Edition(Free Online Registration) Auburn @ Play Auburn’s Rotary Spray Playground at Les Gove Park is open daily from 10am-8pm through Labor Day. Save the date! The fabulous Kids Summerstage entertainment series will be held on Wednesdays at Les Gove Park, through August 15. The noon concerts are a sure hit with kids and the adults who bring them. The AuburnFest Almost 5K Poker Fun Run & Walk will be held in conjunction with the Summer Sounds & Cinema concert and outdoor movie at Les Gove Park on Friday, August 10 at 7pm. Participants will pick-up a card each lap to make a Poker hand. Prizes to the top Poker hands in a variety of categories. Pre-registered runners will receive a t-shirt. Food options, plus a beer garden, will be available for purchase in the park after the race. Applications are now being accepted for Auburn’s 53rdd annual Veterans Day Parade, to be held on Saturday, November 10 at 11:00am on Main Street in Downtown Auburn. We will do all the setup and cleanup and you just show up ready to party with your child. Birthday Party Packages run $165-$250 for up to 15 kids. Party packages include 2 hours of party time. Family programsParents’ Night Out Saturday, August 18, 5-10pm. Our theme this month is Summer Surprises. We will have fun with lots of splashy summer fun surprises to end our summer. Drop your kids off at the Gymnasium at Les Gove Park for an evening of dinner, snacks, games, arts & crafts, inflatable toys and sports while you enjoy a parent night out. All activities will be facilitated and supervised by trained staff who have undergone a National State Patrol background check. Kids in the Parents’ Night Out program will have exclusive use of the gym. For ages 5-11. Fee: $16/$20 first child; $10/$12 each additional sibling. Must be pre-registered by the Wednesday, prior to the event. Don’t wait too long as we do fill up. Get Outside and Climb Open Climbing for all ages with belayers provided. This is a great opportunity to try out climbing for the first time, practice your skills, or just have fun! All equipment is provided. Wristbands are available at the Les Gove Community Center, with climbing on the Rock Wall behind the Les Gove Gymnasium. Make and Take Small Private Parties – Create a custom project with your closest friends and family in our Makerspace. Perfect for teen birthday parties, moms’ groups, church groups, leadership and team-building events. All materials and instruction are provided by our friendly, expert party host. Groups are welcome to provide their own snacks and beverages. Options include: Rustic Engraved Signs; Engraved Cutting Boards; Engraved & Stained Coasters; String Art Décor; Engraved Glassware. 2 hours, for up to 6 people, $160; 3 hours for 7 to 10 people, $230. Adapted from Disney’s Beloved animated film and the works of Rudyard Kipling, the ‘man cub’ Mowgli, bounds through the jungle and learns what it means to be human. Learn basic activing techniques, stage etiquette, and create your own costume while working as an ensemble to bring the Jungle Book to life! Parent observation day on the final day of class. Do you need a couple of hours to yourself, have an appointment or just want to meet up with a friend and do not have a sitter? We can help at our new drop-in childcare program and we will keep them safe and entertained. Child must be fully toilet trained and no pull-ups. Two hours of care for $10. Drop-In Childcare is now available! Drop-off the kiddos in the Pre-School room so Moms and Dads can get a workout in or try out a group fitness class! After School Program at The REC - Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation offers the popular After School Program at The REC, beginning Wednesday, September 5, 2018. This program, running 2:30-6:30 daily, Monday through Friday, features Arts & Crafts, the Makers Room (3D Printers, Laser Etchers and much more), technology lab (computers), REC Room – featuring two large tv screens for video games and movie, basketball and futsal (indoor soccer) and a daily snack (snack begins in late September). The Auburn School District will provide bus transportation to the REC from each of the four middle schools. Auburn’s Youth Council constantly welcomes new members. The Youth Council volunteers at local events, helps collaborate on ideas that benefit Auburn and takes on other active roles in the community. Call 253-931-3074 for details and an application. The City of Auburn art gallery exhibitions for August 2018 include expressive landscape paintings by artist Teri Capp on view at the Cheryl Sallee Gallery through September 18. The Community & Event Center Gallery is featuring an exhibition of portraits by artist Frank Greif, with images portraying dog owners with their pets, on view through August 27. On view at the City Hall Gallery are the colorfully abstracted landscape paintings of Fiona Lau. also on view through August 27. Auburn’s Art on Main window-front gallery is featuring a colorful and whimsical installation, titled “Skymonkey Encounter,” by artist Pete Goldlust, which will be on view through September 23. Goldlust creates works that are site-specific and mixed media, engaging the viewer in an entirely new visual experience of a space, often implementing cartoon-like imagery and bright, bold colors! Pianos on Parade will be back on display for the community to enjoy for the month of August! Installed throughout the city, five artistically decorated pianos to enjoy and play will be located at the following locations: City Hall Courtyard, Nelson’s Jewelry, Geaux Brewing, Zola’s Cafe and the Lakeland Hills Haggen. Also, be on the lookout for BenchMarks, our artistically decorated benches made by the community, which are on display throughout the city for the summer! Karaoke- Mondays from 9:30-11:30am. SAIL is a strength, balance and fitness program for adults 50 and older. Performing exercises that improve strength, balance and fitness are the single most important activity that adults can do to stay active and reduce their chances of falling. SAIL consist of a warm up, light aerobics, strength and balance training and cool down. All exercises can be done seated or standing. This class is completely free and does not require a fitness membership or any pre-registration. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10am Senior Golf League- Thursday 12:45 pm at Auburn Golf Course.
