LETTUCE share some news! The Auburn Int’l Farmers Market will temporarily move for the 2018 season. It will be SPROUTING up at a temporary location at Les Gove Park along Auburn Way South. CORN you believe it? We’ll offer the same cream-of-the-CROP vendors and the same BERRY easy access to local, farm-fresh products in Auburn at this temporary location. We hope you TURNIP for the 2018 Market season at Les Gove Park every Sunday from 10am-3pm from June through the end of September. It will be JAM-packed full of fun. Get out the leash and play with your dog during the 3K/5K Dog Trot Fun Run as part of Petpalooza on Saturday, May 19 at 9:30am at Game Farm Park. Registrations are now being accepted and include a FREE event T-Shirt. Craft, food and general vendor applications are now being accepted for Auburn’s special events, including Petpalooza, KidsDay, 4th of July and AuburnFest. Prices vary based on business type. Family programsYouth ages 14 and under are invited to participate in the FREE 2018 Youth Fishing Derby at Mill Pond Park, 600 Oravetz Road in Auburn (adjacent to Auburn Riverside High School) from 8:30 a.m.– 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 5. The pond will be stocked with trophy size trout for youth to catch. The free annual fishing derby is sponsored by the City of Auburn, Auburn Sports & Marine and Auburn S.O.F. Chapter of the Puget Sound Anglers. Parents’ Night Out Saturday, May 19, 5-10pm. Our theme this month is Spring Has Sprung. We will have fun welcoming Spring with lots of fun color and lots of buggy creative crafts. Drop your kids off at the Gymnasium at Les Gove Park for an evening of dinner, snacks, games, arts & crafts, inflatable toys and sports while you enjoy a parent night out. All activities will be facilitated and supervised by trained staff who have undergone a National State Patrol background check. Kids in the Parents’ Night Out program will have exclusive use of the gym. For ages 5-11. Fee: $16/$20 first child; $10/$12 each additional sibling. Must be pre-registered by the Wednesday, prior to the event. Don’t wait too long as we do fill up. Family Yoga! The family that does yoga together says healthy and active together. Bring your whole family to the mat for imaginative yoga play which includes jumping, breathing, laughing and storytelling! The entire family will have a great time, plus, take time to relax. Yoga can help provide students of all ages clarity and a sense of calm. Learn tools to help improve focus and concentration and reduce anxiety that will serve children for a lifetime. Wildside Trail- Take a walk on the wild side at Cougar Mountain! This 4.2 mile hike on the Wildside Trail features a view of the De Leo Wall, an ancient formation of magma, after crossing the Coal Creek Bridge. Don’t forget a pair of comfortable hiking shoes or boots, weather appropriate layers, lunch and water! Saturday, May 12, 11am-4pm. $5/$7. Rock Climbing for Groups & Families- This package is designed for groups and families wanting to develop team building skills and have fun in the bargain. Skyhawks Instructional Sports Classes - Skyhawks provides a wide variety of fun, safe and positive programs that emphasize critical lessons in sports and life, such as teamwork, respect and sportsmanship. This program, running 2:30-6:30 daily, Monday through Friday, features Arts & Crafts, the Makers Room (3D Printers, Laser Etchers and much more), technology lab (computers), REC Room – featuring two large tv screens for video games and movie, basketball and futsal (indoor soccer) and a daily snack (snack begins in late September). The Auburn School District will provide bus transportation to the REC from each of the four middle schools. Hype Night at The REC - for middle school students, this Friday night program takes place the third weekend of each month, September through May. Hype Night features arts & crafts, the Makers Room with fun technology (3D Printing, Laser Etching, etc.), the REC Room with fun video games and snacks. May Hype Night! The City of Auburn art gallery exhibitions for May 2018 include an exhibition of colorful mixed-media paintings by Sharlene Cline on view through May 16, followed by the dramatic black and white photography of ruined or abandoned places by Mike Vos. The Community & Event Center Gallery is featuring an exhibition of nature-inspired works on paper and mixed media by artist Richelle Gribble, on view through May 29. On view at the City Hall Gallery is an exhibition of colorful and patterned portraits by artist Megan Eckman, also on view through May 29. Auburn’s Art on Main window-front gallery is now featuring a dynamic narrative installation titled “The Rundown,” including painting and sculpture by artist Lauren Boilini on view through June 24. Boilini’s work often features painted masses of figures and forms, creating compositions that are visually complex yet beautiful and conceptually driven. Register now for these great upcoming classes! On May 9 & 16 we will be featuring a brand-new “Fused Glass Pedants” class taught by experienced local glass artists Di Faria. Students will explore some of the techniques of kiln formed glass and design using a range of glass making techniques and processes to create beautiful jewelry. Back by popular demand on May 12, is the “Needle Felting for Beginners” class in which students will learn the basics of needle felting, such as shaping, adding colors, connecting different materials. A people’s choice competition is still underway for the City of Auburn’s Downtown Sculpture Gallery in the heart of downtown Auburn. The Auburn Art Walk, a favorite semi-annual event, is coming up on May 11th from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m., in which downtown businesses will be filled with music, local artists, art, and fine wines! Auburn’s historic downtown will come alive with artists displaying and selling their original arts and crafts in temporary galleries through the Main Street businesses, including Auburn’s Arts & Culture Center. SAIL is a strength, balance and fitness program for adults 50 and older. Performing exercises that improve strength, balance and fitness are the single most important activity that adults can do to stay active and reduce their chances of falling. SAIL consist of a warm up, light aerobics, strength and balance training and cool down. All exercises can be done seated or standing. White River Valley MuseumNew Exhibit! Suffer for Beauty Women’s History Revealed Through Undergarments Late Play Date May 3, 6 – 8pm. On the first Thursday of every month drop-in for FREE admission and themed activities perfect for families with children 3-12 years of age, no registration required. Kids will make a cool Van Gogh style project at this special "Snack and Paint" session with local artist Crystal Lowy! Sponsored by the Robert Chinn Foundation. Farm Tots! Every Tuesday in May at 10am bring your 3 -5 year old tots to the Mary Olson Farm for a 40 minute exploration of nature, history and farm life. It’s time to pull round the oxen, pack-up the covered wagon and avoid dysentery! Kids ages 7 – 12 will have a blast at this pioneer themed overnight with activities like playing a museum-sized Oregon Trail game, crafting pioneer toys and playing old fashioned games. $35 per child, pre-registration required. The Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. On the first Thursday of each month the hours are extended from 6 to 8 p.m. Regular admission is: $5 adults, $2 seniors and children, children 2 years of age or younger are always free.
