Join us for “Where in Auburn?” Download a July calendar; pick one up at the Auburn Community & Event Center or the Auburn Senior Activity Center, or find one on the Auburn Parks & Recreation Facebook page and play along daily with “Where in Auburn.” Answer at least 10 of the locations to be eligible to enter a prize drawing for a basket full of “Auburn FUN!”. Calendars must be turned in by Friday, August 4 to the Auburn Community & Event Center.

Awards will be announced at 3:50pm from the DJ Booth. $10 pre-registration or $15 on event day. Parents’ Night Out!! Saturday, July 8, 5-10pm. Our theme this month is Splish Splash Bash. We will have fun with lots of fun water activities and games. Drop your kids off at the Gymnasium at Les Gove Park for an evening of dinner, snacks, games, arts & crafts, inflatable toys and sports while you enjoy a parent night out. All activities will be facilitated and supervised by trained staff who have undergone a National State Patrol background check. Kids in the Parents’ Night Out program will have exclusive use of the gym. For ages 5-11. Fee: $16/$20 first child; $10/$12 each additional sibling. Must be pre-registered by the Wednesday, prior to the event. Don’t wait too long as we do fill up. Save the date! The fabulous Kids Summerstage entertainment series will be held at Les Gove Park, July 12 – August 16. The noon concerts are a sure hit with kids and the adults who bring them. The Summer Sounds & Cinema series is just around the corner! The series starts on Friday, July 28th at Lea Hill Park. Entertainment from 6-8:30pm; the movie Sing (PG) begins at dusk. The series moves to Sunset Park on Friday, August 4, with a screening of Moana. The last event in the series will be held at Les Gove Park on Friday, August 11th, with the blockbuster hit, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Each event features inflatable rides, hands-on ArtRageous activities, food vendors/food trucks and more! Thank you to King County Parks for supporting the series. The AuburnFest 5K Summer Stride fun run held will be held in conjunction with the Summer Sounds & Cinema concert and outdoor movie at Les Gove Park on Friday, August 11 at 7pm. The chip-timed run is flat, easy, and fun for all ages. Pre-registered runners will receive a drifit t-shirt. Food options, plus a beer garden, will be available for purchase in the park after the race. Early registration fee of $20 ends July 14. Regular registration fee, $25 from July 15-August 9. Day-of registration is $30. We are excited to announce AuburnFest held at Les Gove Park on Saturday, August 12 from 11am-8pm. This community event will include entertainment, a beer garden, food vendors, craft and specialty vendors, community and non-profit vendors; a super slide, inflatables, a rock-wall, a train, a “Fill the bus” event to collect school supplies for kids and so much more! We’ll prove with this 3-day, 2-night backpacking trip! We’ll hike 3-4 miles per day, camp out on the beach and get away from reality. This trip will include meal preparation, camping and mindfulness practice. All gear, food, transportation and guidance will be provided. Ages 11-16. July 11, 8am-July 13, 6pm. $195/$244. Cultural ArtsThe City of Auburn art gallery exhibitions for July include stunning photography by artist Judi Kubes on view from June 28th to August 30th at the Cheryl Sallee Gallery. The Community & Event Center Gallery is currently featuring the beautiful texture-focused photography by Jack Straton on view from June 1st through July 13th, followed by unique tin type photography by Zachary Burns. On view at the City Hall Gallery is an exhibition of sculptural and innovative textiles by Oregon artist Lauren Wold on view June 1st through July 13th, followed by mixed media work by artists Amy Britsas and Darrell Honanie. Auburn’s Art on Main window-front gallery is featuring a bold and dynamic installation titled “Forces and Reactions” by talented printmaking artist Christopher Hartshorne. Hartshorne uses woodblock prints to “illustrate turbulent forces, chaos, and expulsions, which conjure connections to the natural processes within biology, chemistry and physics.” Through his bold and expressive prints, the artist seeks to “allude to the immensity of the universe and fictionalize all that exists beyond the limits of our perception… a reminder that the structures, reactions and forces proven to exist by science escape the logic of our immediate senses.” His work will be on display from May 19th through July 31st. Upcoming art classes include: Drawing Without an Eraser with instructor Jan Jensen on Thursdays, July 6, 13 and 20 from 6:30 – 8:00 PM. Also coming up in July is a “Meet the Artist” class with Zachary Burns teaching the unique technique of Pinhole Camera Photography. Sign up now for these great classes! White River Valley MuseumNew Exhibit Opens on July 12! SALISH MODERN, Innovative Art with Ancient Roots on display through December 17, 2017. Hooked on History, Every Wednesday in July, 10:30 – 11:30am. Join us for an awesome hour of activities, crafts and Museum fun right before the concerts in Les Gove Park. Salish Modern Exhibit Lecture with Curator Greg Watson, July 11 Exhibit viewing 5 – 6pm and lecture from 6 – 7pm, Explore the history, themes, color and culture of our stunning new exhibit of modern Salish art with exhibit curator Greg Watson. Watson, a longtime student and collector of Salish art, a Wulshootseed speaker, and skilled a skilled storyteller, will provide insightful perspectives on the exhibit. This lecture is a free event, no registration required but space is limited. Museum Time Traveler Camp, July 17 -21 & July 24 – 28, 9am – Noon. Native Storytelling with Roger Fernandes, August 3, 7pm. Roger Fernandes is a Lower Elwha Band of the S'Klallam Indians Storyteller whose stories incorporate song and dance. In the course of telling Native American stories, Roger integrates stories he has learned from other cultures around the world. Free event, no registration required, but space is limited. White River Valley Museum, is located in the Les Gove Community Campus at 918 H Street SE.
