New Quarry Hill Apartments
Planning and Zoning recently issued a zoning permit for construction to begin on a 52-unit multi-family building at 440 Quarry Hill Road. This is the second phase of development for the project which has three phases.
This next building will be a 4-storey building with a mix of underground and surface parking. It will also have 8 inclusionary units which furthers the City’s goal of providing housing for people of all incomes, lifestyles and stages of life.
Week one of Firefighter Recruit Academy
The week kicked off with recruits learning the application of fire service hydraulics and hose line deployment. We currently have three new firefighters who are in training. All three come with prior experience from other communities.
There are numerous reasons why it makes sense for communities to reduce use of road salt. This video shares the experience of our DPW and Stormwater teams, as we have been able to reduce salt use and save money through salt tracking and equipment calibration.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING AT CITY HALL
Twelve new electric vehicle charging stations are available at180 Market Street. These stations (Chargepoint - Level 2) are open and available to the public 24-7.
For the first year (until August 2022) users may charge vehicles free of charge, with only a dwell fee (squatting on a charging space while not charging). Two spaces are priority parking (near the building entrance).
The installation of the chargers was funded in large part by a grant from the State of Vermont – available through the VW Environmental Mitigation Trust. In all, this 12-spot charging location provides a place for people to “fill up” their vehicles with easy access to goods and services in City Center while at the “station."
P4P PROJECT: Allen Road Shared Use Path
Construction of the Allen Road Shared Use Path connection is almost complete. This project is closing an 800-foot long gap in the City’s shared use path network.
It is creating a 10-foot wide path along Allen Road, beginning at the end of existing infrastructure just east of Baycrest Drive and ending across Spear Street where new shared use path infrastructure begins. In addition to the path, new pedestrian signals will be installed, as well as bike boxes on Spear Street.
This project is being funded by Penny for Paths.
