Hubbard Park Sign

There was a public forum on September 23 to discuss project elements associated with the Hubbard Recreation & Natural Area.  The project team reviewed a proposed concept that included the following elements: shared us path connection, viewing area, stormwater treatment, on-site parking, trail formalization, and pedestrian connectivity.

If you missed the forum and want to learn more about the project and see the related concepts, you can find a recording of the forum and conceptual renderings online.  The public comment period is open through October 8.

Preparing for Winter: Reducing Salt Use

Smart Salting video - screen capture

There are numerous reasons why it makes sense for communities to reduce use of road salt. This video shares the experience of our DPW and Stormwater teams, as we have been able to reduce salt use and save money through salt tracking and equipment calibration.

Charger in electric vehicle

ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING AT CITY HALL

Twelve new electric vehicle charging stations are available at180 Market Street.  These stations (Chargepoint - Level 2) are open and available to the public 24-7.

For the first year (until August 2022) users may charge vehicles free of charge, with only a dwell fee (squatting on a charging space while not charging).  Two spaces are priority parking (near the building entrance).

The installation of the chargers was funded in large part by a grant from the State of Vermont – available through the VW Environmental Mitigation Trust. In all, this 12-spot charging location provides a place for people to “fill up” their vehicles with easy access to goods and services in City Center while at the “station."

P4P PROJECT: Allen Road Shared Use Path

Allen Road Construction - p4p

Construction of the Allen Road Shared Use Path connection is almost complete.  This project is closing an 800-foot long gap in the City’s shared use path network.

It is creating a 10-foot wide path along Allen Road, beginning at the end of existing infrastructure just east of Baycrest Drive and ending across Spear Street where new shared use path infrastructure begins.  In addition to the path, new pedestrian signals will be installed, as well as bike boxes on Spear Street.

This project is being funded by Penny for Paths.
