 Beta Announces Plans to Expand Electric Aircraft Facility
BETA Technologies (“BETA” or “the Company”) has begun the permitting process to construct its next phase facility in Vermont. The project includes building a state-of-the-art training and assembly facility at Burlington International Airport (BTV). The project is expected to create hundreds of additional new jobs in the coming years, not including construction. The majority of these positions will be in engineering, design and manufacturing.

Mask Requirement Removed
On Tuesday, the City Council rescinded the resolution requiring masks to be worn in public places and in businesses. Moving forward, we will be following the Governor's guidance. Businesses are able to set their own standards for wearing masks on their premises.
 City-wide Reappraisal Update
Appraisal notices for residential owners are scheduled to be mailed on Friday, June 4. If you agree with the value, you do not need to do anythimg. There is an outlined process for grievances, please be sure to read that information when you receive your notice, as it contains grievance information, including deadlines and contact numbers.

 Market Street Stormwater Park Wins Facility of Merit Award
Last week VRPA ( Vermont Recreation and Parks Association) hosted it’s annual awards meeting and selected the Market Street Stormwater Park as a Facility of Merit. Congratulations to the SE Group for their beautiful design and final product as well as all those involved from the City on the project team!

City Offices, Library +Senior Center Near Completion
The new building that will house the City’s Public Library, City Hall, City Clerk’s office and a Senior Center is nearing completion. The building, located at 180 Market Street in City Center, has been years in the planning, development, financing and construction process and will provide an excellent, functional and efficient location for many City services. The City Council passed a resolution seeking to clarify who is eligible to serve on City Advisory Committees. The City Council has established multiple committees to advise it on matters of policy ranging from protection of natural resources to the establishment of bike and pedestrian facilities. In recent years there has been an interest raised by residents who are not US citizens or who are under 18 years of age to serve on committees. Read more.
On Wednesday, May 19th, the League of American Bicyclists announced that South Burlington was designated as a Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) at the Bronze level. This is the first time that the City has received this designation. Learn more.
The Swift & Spear Feasibility Study sponsored by the City of South Burlington, CCRPC, and their design consultants has been exploring options to improve walking, bicycling, and driving through the Swift Street / Spear Street intersection.

 Shaw Reappointed as Representative to the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission
South Burlington resident Chris Shaw has been re-appointed by the City Council to represent the City on the Board of Directors of the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) The appointment is for an additional two-year term and Shaw has been selected by the rest of the Board to serve as Vice Chair in the year ahead pending his reappointment.

Firefighters perform many of their duties in an environment that induces extreme physiological and psychological stress. Our work space can be in a dark, hot - 400–500-degree environment while wearing, or carrying 50-75 pound of Personal Protective Ensemble (PPE) and the tools they need to extinguish and then overhaul a fire scene. The pandemic has made it hard for thousands of Chittenden County residents to pay for housing. Earlier this month, the Vermont Housing Finance Agency resumed offering federal grants to help qualified lower and middle-income homeowners with economic hardship from the pandemic pay back property taxes and mortgage payments.
