Council Reconsiders Vote on I-89 Corridor Study
During their meeting on May 3rd, the City Council revisited a prior vote related to recommendations to the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) regarding upgrades to Interstate 89.
CCRPC is engaged in a two-year long study of improvements that could be made to the entire I-89 Corridor over its course through Chittenden County to improve safety, access and a variety of other criteria. The Commission has been looking to local communities where the Interstate is located to make recommendations on a list of potential improvements

 National Police Week
The week of May 9th to May 15th is recognized around the country as National Police Week. This tradition of recognizing the service and sacrifice of law enforcement began in 1962, when President John F. Kennedy issued the first proclamation for Peace Officer’s Memorial Day and National Police Week.

A Neighbor's Perspective on Dogs in Red Rocks Park
by Larry Kupferman
I think that many dog owners who walk their dogs in Red Rocks respect the value of Red Rocks Park as a natural area with wonderful flora and fauna especially suited to it. There are those folks who let their dogs run off trail disturbing the natural balance that exists there and spoiling the experience for others --dog owners or not.
Responsible dog owners could certainly do more to encourage those who do not respect or understand the value of the natural areas by letting their dogs run off leash.
It is always quite wonderful for me to see families with their children enjoying Red Rocks Park. Unfortunately it takes a dog off leash to spoil that experience.
Larry lives near Red Rocks Park and is a former member of both the Dog Park Committee and the Natural Resource Conservation Committee.

The South Burlington City Council has voted to extend Interim Zoning Bylaws through November 13, 2021.
Interim Zoning, or IZ as it is called, is authorized under State statute and allows a community to establish a second level of review of certain development projects while the City addresses a particular concern related to growth. In the case of South Burlington the Council approved Interim Zoning to allow time to address natural resource related issues primarily in the Southeast Quadrant (SEQ) of the City and also come up with new standards for housing developments in that area known as Planned Unit Developments (PUD).

On April 6, 2021 the library hosted an amazing program: Reading to Inspire. Five renowned Vermont authors - Alison Bechdel, Emily Bernard, Stephen Kiernan, Madeleine Kunin and Tanya Lee Stone - read from recent works, discussed their writing process and answered questions from more than 60 online guests. Moderated by State Representative John Killacky, the participants felt like they were joining John in his living room with five good friends. It was a delightful and memorable evening, and the Foundation is very grateful to John and the authors for donating their time to help the new library.
For those who missed the live event, the recording is now available on the South Burlington Public Library YouTube channel ReadingToInspireApril6Recording.
Reading to Inspire was organized by the South Burlington Library Foundation to raise money to enrich offerings at the new South Burlington Public Library.
