Amtrak Step-Up Price Change

The cost of an Amtrak Step-Up ticket will drop from $8 to $4. The temporary reduction is part of VRE’s effort to accommodate Metrorail passengers during this summer’s closure of six stations south of National Airport for platform repairs. With the Amtrak Step-Up trains more affordable, VRE riders holding multi-ride tickets (Monthly, 5-Day, 10-Ride, and TLC) will have more options for their daily commute. Increased use of the Amtrak Step-Up trains will free up space on VRE trains for new riders. VRE has been working closely with the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, which is subsidizing the Step-Up fare reduction, and Amtrak on this project.
