"The Stroke Survivors Support Group"
"The Stroke Survivors Support Group" through Longwood University's speech-language pathology graduate program launched this month in Farmville, VA. The group provides a safe space for stroke survivors and their caregivers.
The group's leader, Sally Wilson, "regularly works with stroke survivors, and she will now be able to help students who are part of the school's speech, hearing and learning services program to learn more about helping stroke survivors and practice some of their skills on actual patients." Sally grew up in rural Virginia and understands the importance of accessible support for families dealing with the struggle of a loved one needing to regain speech. The no-cost support group plans to meet monthly.

Stroudwater Physician Services Provider Compensation Survey
Stroudwater Associates, in partnership with the NRHA and NOSORH, developed a physician and advanced practice provider compensation survey for rural organizations. Representing over 6,000 rural providers, the survey results illustrate the enormous variability in provider pay across rural organizations and the pressing need for rural healthcare to align its provider pay to the organization’s goals. The first-of-its-kind report provides a path forward for rural healthcare organizations by outlining provider compensation trends, best practices, and potential challenges leaders might face when recruiting and retaining top talent in rural.”
The survey should take less than 30 minutes to complete. If organizations are unable to finish the survey in one sitting, they can save their progress and resume the survey before it closes on February 26th. After the survey closes, teams will analyze the data with plans to share findings later this year.

Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA)
Call for Grant Reviewers
HRSA relies on grant reviewers to select the best programs from a competitive group of applicants. Over the coming months, the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy will be competing a number of programs, including among other things: substance use disorders and opioid use disorder, rural workforce, and rural hospitals. Having reviewers with expertise in rural health greatly benefits the review process and is also an opportunity to learn about the review process itself. Reviews are typically held remotely over a period of a few days and reviewers who participate and complete their assigned duties receive an honorarium. Registration is easy and does not commit you to serving as a reviewer. Please consider lending your expertise to these important initiatives.
