In July 2021, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors initiated amendments to the zoning text and county code to create an Affordable Housing Dwelling Unit Ordinance. The ordinance's purpose is to help people with incomes at or below the area median income live in the county while maintaining a basic lifestyle and meeting basic living needs. A draft of that ordinance is now available for public review. The county has two upcoming public meeting opportunities, one in-person on Wednesday, April 3, from 6-8 p.m., and the second is a virtual meeting on Thursday, April 4, from 6-8 p.m. Both meetings are open to everyone interested in learning more and providing feedback. Those interested in providing feedback can also do so online at pwcva.gov/afdu.
The Prince William County Sports and Event Center is a proposed large indoor multi-sport and special event facility, that if ultimately approved, will be developed in North Woodbridge. As proposed, the facility would accommodate sports such as track and field, volleyball, basketball, pickleball, cheer, wrestling, football, and soccer, as well as special events such as graduations, trade shows, expos, and corporate and community events. Residents of Prince William County are invited to attend the community meetings on Wednesday, April 10, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. and Thursday, April 11, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. to learn more about the project and provide feedback. If residents are unable to attend the community meetings, they can also provide feedback via the website.

The Prince William Area Agency on Aging is hosting two events in April. The first event, AARP 2024 Scam Jam on April 5, will teach those 50 and older how to recognize artificial intelligence scams and tips from the FBI on how to avoid them. On April 6, the agency will host "All In for Parkinson's," a free event for caregivers of people affected by Parkinson's disease. The event will provide information on various treatment options and resources to manage the disease. It will also feature panel discussions and breakout sessions covering a wide range of subjects related to Parkinson's disease. Both events require registration.
Dumpster Days are back! The Prince William County Department of Public Works Solid Waste Division has scheduled these popular events in communities throughout the county from April to October. These events offer an opportunity for neighbors to come together and get rid of unwanted clutter and debris from their homes, yards and communities.
Prince William Public Libraries is gearing up for its inaugural Lit Con, a five-week celebration of fandom, comics, manga and more with exciting events planned from April 1 – May 4, 2024. Lit Con aims to promote and celebrate comics, manga and anime collections; and with nearly 50 events spread across all 12 branches, there's something for everyone, from avid comic readers to casual fans.
For the second year in a row, homeowners in Prince William County interested in solar energy can take advantage of the Solarize Virginia Program, which helps make the transition to solar easier and more affordable. By registering for the program, homeowners can receive a free solar satellite assessment to ensure eligibility, discounted solar system pricing, access to vetted installers and ongoing support and education. The program runs from April 1 to June 30, and community members interested in installing solar are encouraged to sign up and take advantage of the program while it is available.
The Economic Development and Tourism Department is kicking off National Small Business Week with the Calibrate Conference on April 29, an education event for existing and established businesses. Join county government and several agencies for networking at the second annual Make Your Mark Business Celebration on May 16. Both events are complimentary, but require registration to attend.
April is recognized as National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the Prince William County Department of Social Services is spreading awareness about the significance of safeguarding children from abuse and neglect. We invite you to join us at the Pinwheels for Prevention Garden planting event on Tuesday, April 2, at 1 p.m. This event provides a unique opportunity to raise awareness about child abuse prevention while celebrating the positive initiatives our community takes to promote stronger families and healthy children.
The Prince William County Criminal Justice Services team recently launched the Public Safety Assessment (PSA) tool, designed to determine whether individuals charged with crimes can be safely released back into the community while awaiting trial. Prince William County is the first and one of only five communities in Virginia that will pilot this innovative new tool.
Prince William County Executive Christopher Shorter presented the Proposed Fiscal Year 2025 Budget to the Board of County Supervisors during their meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024. The budget adoption process will continue in April with a public hearing scheduled for April 9, budget markup on April 16 and budget adoption on April 23. Those who have questions about the proposed budget can use the Budget Q&A app on the county’s website.
