September is National Preparedness Month, which serves as a reminder for everyone to take steps to prepare for manmade and natural disasters at their homes, businesses and neighborhoods. Emergencies often come with little warning, but there are simple steps you can take that could save lives.
In November 2020, the Board of County Supervisors adopted a set of Climate Mitigation and Resiliency Goals and authorized the county’s Office of Sustainability to develop a Community Energy and Sustainability Master Plan, or CESMP, to help meet those goals. A draft of the CESMP is available and the Office of Sustainability is looking for your input! Please submit your feedback online by Sept. 15, 2023. You can also attend a virtual town hall on the draft CESMP on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 6:30 p.m. Please register by Sept. 12 to participate in the town hall.
Early voting for the 2023 November General Election will open on Friday, Sept. 22, and run through Saturday, Nov. 4. Find out all you need to know about voting this election season. And if you're interested in participating in the election day process, the Prince William County Office of Elections is still accepting apply to be an election officer and help make a difference in your community.
Join us Monday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. to remember and honor those lost in the tragic events of 22 years ago. The event will be held at the World Trade Center Steel Monument located at the McCoart Building, 1 County Complex Court in Woodbridge.
The Third Annual Community Fair, hosted by the Prince William County Police Department, is Saturday, Sept. 16, from 12–4 p.m. on the Sean T. Connaughton Plaza at the McCoart Government Complex, 1 County Complex Court in Woodbridge. Police, Animal Services, Fire & Rescue, Public Safety Communications, Sheriff’s Office, and other Prince William County agencies, as well as fun displays and activities, live music, food trucks and more will be on-site for this fun, family-friendly community event!

This provides residents with the option to build solar installations on their property using a standardized design, which reduces the need to hire a professional engineer if the plans are used exactly as approved. These latest residential solar standardized plans are designed by professional experts, free of charge, and support homeowners’ interest in solar energy and roof-top safety. By using standard plans for home solar installation, residents will save time and money during the permitting process.
Have a dress that’s no longer your style? Pants that no longer fit? Too many pairs of shoes? Don’t toss them in the trash! Take them to donation bins at the Prince William County Landfill or Compost Facility. Anything that someone can wear, sleep in or dry off with can be donated; and items that are no longer wearable can be recycled. So, donate them today!
September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Prince William Public Libraries joins the American Library Association and libraries nationwide to remind everyone about the valuable resources available with a library card. From borrowing books, e-books and audiobooks to getting homework help, learning new skills, or attending a book club or story time, a library card helps everyone do more of what they enjoy, all without stretching their budget.
