Each September, the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB) joins people across the country to celebrate Recovery Month. This month honors people who are living in recovery. It also reminds us that healing is possible. Recovery Month 2026 focuses on connecting with care, peer support and community awareness. Recovery Month reminds us that no one has to do this alone.
As Michael Lane, Division Director of Recovery and Peer Services, says, “With the right support, people can find hope and move forward in recovery.”

These mini-grants will fund youth-planned, youth-led projects within Fairfax County, Fairfax City and Falls Church City, to be completed by May 21, 2027. Proposals are due September 14, 2026.

The third annual 988 Day takes place September 8 to raise awareness of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and highlight the importance of prioritizing mental health and seeking help. 988 Day is a key part of the broader September focus on suicide prevention, mental health awareness, and recovery.
This year’s 988 Day theme is “988 Reasons: Your reason is enough,” highlighting the many reasons people may need support, such as a difficult moment, a mental health challenge, or a concern for someone else. Anyone can call, text, or chat 988 anytime, 24/7, to connect with a skilled, caring, and non-judgmental 988 counselor.
Help us spread the word about 988 as part of a national initiative led by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
