Spotlight on Specials: PE
In PE classes we started our throwing and catching unit for the 3rd quarter and had fun stations and games! There were over 20 different stations during our throwing and catching unit and the students practiced their rolling, underhand throwing, overhand throwing, & catching skills. We also played the game cleaned out your back yard with various throwing targets.
During our movement & fitness unit students in 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th grade practiced and completed the VA wellness fitness tests which included the pacer, pushups, curlups, trunk lift, shoulder stretch, and sit and reach. Kindergarten students completed gross motor testing and all students in 1st and 2nd practiced their locomotor skills. Some classes also played noodle tag and got a chance to spin our Wheel of Fitness!
We started the second quarter with practicing jump rope tricks and learning about tiniklink with students in 4th,5th, & 6th. We are looking forward to a fun quarter of learning for all students in PE during our gymnastics, basketball, and fitness/nutrition units.
If you are in the building check out the hallway displays outside of the gym! We have reasons why PE matters and our Literacy in Motion display which shows Island Creek Library books that match with the units in PE.
Please make sure your child has the correct shoes on for PE. Open toed shoes are not safe, and an alternate assignment will be given.
