Our second Surprise Attendance Day was a blast! On Wednesday, students enjoyed a DJ dance party during every grade-level lunch block. They had a groovy time dancing to the latest Kidz Bop hits and classic Michael Jackson tunes. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a fun celebration of showing up to school! Remember…everyday counts!
Please remember to sign up for a parent-teacher conference time slot with your child’s teacher. Conferences are a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, celebrate successes, and partner together to support their learning. We look forward to connecting with you!
The end of the first quarter is this Friday, October 30th. Students will be dismissed two hours early at 2:05 p.m., and child care will not be available that day. Please also mark your calendars: Monday, November 2, is a School Planning Day, and Tuesday, November 3, is a Teacher Workday. There will be no school for students on either day.
Enjoy the Fall weekend Hornet Nation!

Registration is not required, but it helps with planning.
The Importance of the Flu Vaccination
- The annual flu vaccine is the most effective way to protect your child from getting sick and to prevent the spread of illness within our classrooms. Staying up-to-date with your child's flu vaccination helps:
-
Reduce School Absences: Keeping students healthy means more time spent learning and engaging with peers.
-
Protect the Community: Vaccination helps shield vulnerable family members and neighbors from seasonal illness.
-
Support Overall Wellness: Routine flu shots are a key component of a proactive student health plan.
Upcoming Flu Shot Events
FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will be providing flu shots for all FCPS students, ages 18 and under, with no out-of-pocket costs. Multiple events will be taking place at designated FCPS locations. Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary.
Encouraging Regular Attendance
Regular attendance is a good habit to establish in childhood. It can lead to greater success in high school, college, and careers. Teachers and students miss your child when they can’t make it to school. If you or your family need support, please reach out to your school's front office. We are here for you!
If students miss too much school, school staff may reach out to the family to partner with them on addressing barriers to regular attendance. Visit the FCPS website for attendance resources.
Share Your Thoughts on Schools and Buildings in the Renovation Queue Survey
The Office of the Chief of Facilities Services and Capital Programs is seeking input from community members, families, and employees about school facility needs and how FCPS prioritizes facility improvements.
Whether you work in an FCPS school, have a child enrolled, or live near an FCPS school, please share your perspective. The survey asks about building conditions, how facilities affect teaching and learning, renovation priorities, and what information would help you better understand this process.
Look for the survey in your email on Friday, October 16. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential. The survey will remain open until Saturday, October 31.
Did You Know? Bond Referendums Fund Facility Renovations
FCPS does not pay for facility renovations out of its general operating budget. Instead, Fairfax County voters decide on how much money FCPS can spend on capital improvement projects through bond referendums. Bonds are issued by the county to the school division and allow FCPS to renovate buildings without increasing taxes.
Learn more about bond referendums and how they support our schools on the Bond Referendum webpage.

Fill the Hive to Refresh the Playground
We need your help to meet our goal!
The Halley PTO needs our entire Halley Hive to help us reach the final $10,000 needed to refresh the Halley Playground! Our 2026–2027 PTO membership drive is dedicated to helping us close that gap.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Sign up for the PTO – Every Halley family is invited to visit our PTOBoard website to join or renew their PTO membership with a donation of your choice.
Minimum donation – Simply give what works best for your family. Every dollar brings us closer to our goal, and every donation counts.
Every donation made through this membership drive will go directly toward our Playground Refresh Fund. When we have reached our $10,000 goal, we’ll have the funding needed to create an updated space for Halley students to make memories for years to come.
FILL THE HIVE
Every family that joins the PTO will be represented by a piece of honeycomb to make up the school-wide honeycomb.
Watch the hive grow! As more families join and donate, the stronger our hive will become. Let’s work together to meet our goal!
Scan Me!
https://halleyes.ptboard.com
GRADE LEVEL CHALLENGE
Each family’s honeycomb will be color-coded by grade level so students can watch the participation grow!
Two ways to win:
HIGHEST PARTICIPATION Which grade level can get the greatest percentage of families involved?
HIGHEST AVERAGE DONATION Which grade can generate the strongest average contribution?
