Our Fairfax Pyramid Principals are ready for a SUPER Pyramid Night!!

October 9, 2026

Dear Fairfax High School Families,

What an incredible week it has been at FHS! While the powerful learning inside our classrooms continues every day, I am always energized by the vibrant spirit and strong connections taking place across our broader school community.

Here are a few highlights from this week:

  • Family BINGO Night: They say there’s no party like an FFX BINGO party—and this week proved it! Thank you to all the families who joined us for a fantastic night of laughter, prizes, and school spirit.
  • The FFX Players CollaBOOret: Our incredibly talented theater students performed to a packed house! They thoroughly entertained and enchanted our audience all night long with their energy, creativity, and hard work.
  • Safe Teen Driving Assembly: Our Class of 2028 gathered for a presentation that was both deeply informative and engaging. We are so proud of our sophomores for stepping up and committing to driver safety and success as they take this big milestone step.

Looking Ahead to Next Week

  • "Hey Day!" (Club & Activity Fair on Thursday): We want every student connected at FHS! Next week during "Hey Day!", students will have the opportunity to explore our wide array of clubs and extracurricular activities to find new ways to get involved.
  • FFX Pyramid Night (Next Friday): Mark your calendars and gather your loved ones! We are hosting our FFX Pyramid Night, featuring a pre-game community tailgate, exciting Friday night football, and plenty of Fairfax FUN. Be sure to invite your friends, family, and future Lions from across our feeder schools!

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in making FHS such a special place for our students to connect, educate, and transform.

Warmly,

Principal's Signature line

Fairfax HS DECA presented a LEGO Leadership hands-on workshop, led by Virginia DECA officers, to teach Fairfax members about problem-solving, collaboration, and strategic planning.  Students used LEGO bricks as an interactive tool for team building and leadership development. Fairfax student leaders now have the tools to lead workshops within their organizations. Students also discussed the projected 1,750 new jobs for the new LEGO Group’s U.S. manufacture site in Virginia set to open in 2027.

Renovation Queue Survey

Share Your Thoughts on Schools and Buildings in the Renovation Queue Survey

The Office of the Chief of Facilities Services and Capital Programs is seeking input from community members, families, and employees about school facility needs and how FCPS prioritizes facility improvements.

Whether you work in an FCPS school, have a child enrolled, or live near an FCPS school, please share your perspective. The survey asks about building conditions, how facilities affect teaching and learning, renovation priorities, and what information would help you better understand this process.

Look for the survey in your email on Friday, October 16. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential. The survey will remain open until Saturday, October 31.

Did You Know? Bond Referendums Fund Facility Renovations

FCPS does not pay for facility renovations out of its general operating budget. Instead, Fairfax County voters decide on how much money FCPS can spend on capital improvement projects through bond referendums. Bonds are issued by the county to the school division and allow FCPS to renovate buildings without increasing taxes.

Learn more about bond referendums and how they support our schools on the Bond Referendum webpage.

News from Student Services

Signs of Suicide Screener

All middle and high schools in FCPS teach students about mental health and how to seek help if they are worried about themselves or a friend. All schools use an evidence-based program called Signs of Suicide (SOS). The program teaches students about this difficult topic and encourages them to seek help.

SOS has been used by thousands of schools over the past few decades. Studies have shown that it effectively teaches students about depression and suicide while reducing the number of students’ self-reported suicide attempts.

Through the program, students learn:

  • that depression is treatable, so they are encouraged to seek help
  • how to identify depression and potential suicide risk in themselves or a friendt
  • to ACT (Acknowledge, Care and Tell a trusted adult) if concerned about themselves or a friend
  • who they can turn to at school for help, if they need it

We encourage you to visit www.sossignsofsuicide.org/parent for information on warning signs for youth suicide, useful

resources, and some of the key messages students will learn.  If you would

like to view the SOS lesson materials, we will be hosting a viewing session on

Monday, November 2nd during the Roar Roundup from 10 to 10:30 am in the Student

Services Conference Room. You can also view this parent video  or visit this site to learn

more about how you can continue this important conversation at home.

At Fairfax High School, the SOS lesson and accompanying screening

will occur, November 9 to November 12 during PE classes for 9th graders and US VA History classes for 11th graders.

We recognize that you may have opted your child

out of this program through the Parent Digital Consent tool (PDC). If you did not

complete an opt out using the PDC and would still like to do so you can opt

your child out of this lesson by Friday, November 6, 2026.Please use this form (https://forms.gle/Pj43ponzP77uAakT8 to do so.

Questions, please contact your student’s counselor.

AP Opt Outs

As part of the FCPS Approved Budget, the fees for the first six AP/IB tests taken for courses in which students are enrolled for high school credit will be paid for by FCPS. Students taking AP tests without enrolling in the corresponding FCPS course are responsible for the test fee(s).

FCPS encourages all students to take AP/IB tests for courses in which they are enrolled. However, students will have the opportunity to opt out of the test(s) by filling out an Opt Out form to be provided by the school. To assist in the decision-making process, students will be provided a report with their previous tests and current AP/IB course enrollment on Friday, October 9 during Lion Time.

Regardless of FCPS opt out decision, students enrolled in any AP course must register for their associated AP test(s) in AP Classroom by October 30th. Instructions for this process have been provided by AP classroom teachers. Students who register after this date may incur a $40 late registration fee. Students who do not register by March 12th will not be able to take the exam(s) and applicable assessed exam fees will not be refunded.

AP students must make Opt Out decisions by October 30th. Student accounts will be billed in December for tests that exceed the six FCPS-funded tests. The nonrefundable fees are $99 per AP exam.
