Principal Message
Dear Lorton Station Families,
At Lorton Station Elementary, we are committed to ensuring that every Roadrunner can grow, learn, and succeed. Our School Improvement and Innovation Plan (SIIP) provides a clear roadmap for how we will continue to strengthen instruction, support student needs, and partner with families throughout the 2026–2027 school year.
Our key areas of focus include:
Reading on Grade Level by 3rd Grade: We are working to increase the percentage of students passing Grade 3 Reading SOL from 66% to 73% by June 2027 through rigorous, evidence-based instruction and intentional use of student assessment data.
Math: Our goal is to increase the percentage of students in Grades 3–6 passing Math SOLs from 71% to 77% through strong implementation of the FCPS curriculum, engaging mathematics instruction, and analysis of common assessment data.
Multilingual Learner Progress: We will continue providing explicit English Language Development instruction and strengthening collaboration among multilingual learner and special education teachers to support students' language and learning needs.
Attendance: Regular attendance is essential to student success. Our goal is to reduce chronic absenteeism from 11.2% to 9.5% by June 2027. We will continue partnering with families to emphasize the importance of attendance and identify students who may need additional support.
Inclusion: We are committed to providing students with disabilities meaningful access to the general education setting and ensuring instruction is responsive to each student's academic, social, and functional needs.
These goals are more than numbers—they represent our commitment to student growth, opportunity, and belonging for every Roadrunner. We will continue to monitor our progress, communicate with families, and adjust our supports based on student needs.
We invite you to learn more about our goals, strategies, and progress by visiting the Lorton Station SIIP page: https://lortonstationes.fcps.edu/about/school-innovation-improvement-plan
Have a Great Day,
Dr. Legagneur, Ms. Champion, Mr. Barton
This year, each Principal Coffee will focus on a specific school topic to give families greater insight into Lorton Station. We invite all Lorton Station families to join us in person for this year’s Principal Coffees, held on select dates from 6:00 to 7:00 pm throughout the 2026-2027 school year. Our first session will cover Title I and the State of the Union for Lorton Station. We will share results from the 26 SOLs and our SIIP Plan for the 2026 - 2027 school year. The meeting will be on October 6 in the Library. We hope to see you there!
SR&R Due
Review and Sign SR&R by September 30
The FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) booklet explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. We encourage families to discuss these expectations with their child(ren).
Families should review the SR&R and sign the acknowledgement form by Wednesday, September 30, either by logging into SIS ParentVUE or by signing and returning the Signature Sheet.
Cellphones and Personal Devices
Students may only use a personal device if it is required as part of a necessary accommodation in the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Section 504 Plan. A principal or the principal’s designee may approve a limited, course-specific exception for students enrolled in a specialized class when the curriculum requires a technology tool or software that isn’t available on a standard FCPS-issued device. Learn more on the FCPS website.
Understanding the Acceptable Use PolicyFCPS provides students with digital tools and devices to support their learning, encourage easy collaboration, and help students learn how to interact with technology safely. The FCPS Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) guides how these technologies are used both inside the classroom and at home. By following the AUP, students learn how to become not just users of technology, but responsible and ethical digital citizens with critical real-world skills such as:
-
Responsible Communication and Conduct: Communicating respectfully and using technology appropriately.
-
Digital Footprint Awareness: Understanding online actions can have lasting effects on a student’s reputation, future opportunities and relationships, career prospects, and safety.
-
Data Privacy and Security: Learning how online safety can protect their digital work and personal information, and guard against cybersecurity risks.
-
Self-Regulation: Learning to manage digital distractions to stay focused when needed.
-
Accountability: Understanding that they are responsible for how they use FCPS technology and digital resources.
