Welcome to Navy Assistant Principal Gist

Dear Navy families,

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Barbara Gist to Navy Elementary School as our new Assistant Principal. She is originally from Southern California and went to UCLA for her undergraduate and graduate degrees in English.

The lure of the seasons brought her and her husband to Virginia where she went back to school to earn a master’s degree in education along with certifications in Administration and Special Education from UVA. 

Barbara taught fourth and sixth grade (AAP)  at Sunrise Valley Elementary and then moved to Aldrin ES as an Assistant Principal. While at Aldrin, she received the National Association of Elementary School Principals Outstanding Assistant Principal award. 

She lives in Reston with her spoiled mini golden doodle, Bailey.  On the weekends you can find her in the garden, reading, or trying to coax Bailey to stay out of trouble.  She definitely has an adventurous streak – she’s been skydiving, loves fast cars,  and roller coasters!  She also loves giraffes (“stick out your neck for a friend!”)

 She is thrilled to be a part of the amazing Navy family and is eager to meet everyone!
