July 2, 2026
Greeting Fairfax Families,
As we head into the Independence Day weekend, I want to take a moment to reflect on a wonderful and productive week on our campus. We just wrapped up our youth band camp and our credit continuation program, and it was truly inspiring to see our students here every day. Their focus, determination, and commitment to excellence—even during the summer months—remind me of what makes our school community so special.
If you are looking for spectacular ways to celebrate the July 4th holiday this week, we have two fantastic events featuring our very own students and campus:
-
Catch the Parade: Be on the lookout for the Fairfax Marching Lions as they kick off the city parade! Come out, line the streets, and cheer them on as they represent our school with pride.
-
Join Us for Fireworks: Later that evening, pack up your lawn chairs and blankets, and head over to Fairfax High School. We are thrilled to host an amazing fireworks fest right here on campus. It is going to be a wonderful night of celebration, reflection, and community spirit.
Whether you are attending the parade, joining us for fireworks, or spending time with family and friends, I wish you all a safe, happy, and restful 4th of July.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and our school. Go Lions!

Blenheim Boulevard Project
We wanted to provide you with an important update that could impact your daily travel. The construction phase of the Blenheim Boulevard Multimodal Improvements Project begins on Monday. This project is the culmination of extensive planning to improve the safety, look, and function of the corridor for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders.
Q: What is being constructed?
A: This project is redesigning Blenheim Boulevard between Layton Hall Drive and Ridge Avenue. The project will maintain one travel lane in each direction and add the following improvements:
- A two-way, 10-foot-wide cycle track on the north side of the road
- 5-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides of the road
- Two multimodal hubs with upgraded bus shelters, bikeshare stations and bike racks
- A new roundabout at the Ridge Avenue intersection
- New left-turn lanes at Daniels Run Elementary, Sherwood Center, and Great Oaks Dr.
- An outdoor classroom and community amphitheater outside Fairfax High School
- Pedestrian-scale lighting and landscaping
For more information about the project and the improvements you can expect when it is complete, visit fairfaxva.gov and search for Blenheim Blvd Multimodal Improvements.
Q: When does construction start and how long will it last?
A: Construction will begin on or after July 6, 2026, and will last approximately two years. The construction timeline will be updated as the project progresses.

Cell Phone Policy
Updated FCPS Cellphone Policy Starts July 1: No Phones or Devices During Lunch for High School Students
Under a new Virginia cellphone law (SB108) and the updated FCPS Cellphone Policy, high school students at FCPS will no longer be able to use cellphones and other smart devices during lunch time, starting July 1. This includes watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other items connected to the internet. During the school day, including during lunch time, high school students will have to keep cellphones and other smart devices off and stored in a locker, backpack, pouch, purse, etc. This policy does not apply to school-issued devices. Visit the FCPS Cellphone Policy webpage for more information.
Summer Meals for Students
Starting Monday, June 22, no-cost meals will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis at the sites and times listed on the FCPS Summer Food Service Program webpage. Students must remain on site while eating their meals.
This year, thanks to generous support from Educate Fairfax, families may also receive one no-cost breakfast and lunch per adult at the following elementary schools: Braddock, Dogwood, Glen Forest, Hutchison, Hybla Valley, and London Towne.
Summer sites will continue to be added, so please check the Summer Food webpage regularly for updates.
Testing Results
Student Testing Results Coming Soon
Through June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, you can view a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.
Most scores are available in SIS ParentVUE. Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families.
Websites for each test provide report translations and help with understanding test results. Please contact our front office with any testing questions or for additional information about how our school and teachers use test results to support student success.
Summer Credit Recovery Reminder
Students that failed a course and signed up for summer school, credit recovery begins Monday, July 6 at Oakton High School (2900 Sutton Road, Vienna, VA, 22181).
Summer credit recovery hours are 8am to 1pm. Attendance is required to receive credit. Students cannot miss more than 600 mins (2 days) of Credit Recovery. If they exceed 600 mins, they will be removed and will need to retake the course during the 2026-2027 school year at Fairfax High School. Parents should have received information about bus locations. It is typically not the same location as the Fairfax HS bus stop.
Once your student completes the course, Fairfax High School counselors will adjust their schedule for the 2026-2027 school year. If you decide not to complete summer credit recovery, please email Ms. Anderson (abanderson@fcps.edu), FHS Director of Student Services.
