Every Day Counts at Island Creek!

Help us reach our goal of 4% or less this year!

Attendance is a vital life skill that will benefit your child later in life. It’s a good habit to build now to help them graduate from college on time and routinely report to work on time once they have a career.

By highlighting this important information, we aim to keep our families  informedabout our collective efforts to encourage regular school attendance

Band Concert

Congratulations to our 5th and 6th GradeBand students for their phenomenal concerts this week! We have incredibly talented instrumentalists under the guidance of Mx. Hamilton. We are so proud of everyone's hard work! Additionally, thank you to the Island Creek Families and Guests who attended the concerts!

Summer Learning Resources for Families

Instructional Services is supporting student learning over the summer. Digital and print resources are being curated on the Summer Learning Resources webpage for students and families to review and practice previously taught content throughout the summer months.

Resources are organized by grade level and aligned to the learning students experienced during the school year. Families can access the materials at any time to review concepts, practice skills, or explore new ideas at home. Additional resources will continue to be added throughout June.

BAND, STRINGS, and CHORUS are NOW REGISTERING FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR

Current 4th Grade and 5th Grade students are now registering for Band, Strings, and Chorus for next school year!  In the next weeks, students will have an opportunity to see and hear instruments at the Spring Concert performances for all groups. We hope that your child will sign up now to participate in at least one of these exciting musical groups!  Students may choose between Band or Strings, but all students may participate in Chorus.

Current 3rd Grade students are eligible to participate in Strings next year and learn how to play an instrument for the first time!  Each year, many 4th graders participate in the Strings program, and it’s a great way to help your child build skills such as teamwork, resiliency, and leadership!

School Supplies for 2026-2027

Island Creek is offering the convenience of pre-purchasing a school supply kit from Campus Survival Kits. All of the ordering information including what the kit includes and how much it costs can be found online here.  There is also a flyer that went home in your child's backpack this week.

The school supply kits will be delivered to the school in August and will be available in your classroom at Open House (or the first day of school, if you are unable to make it to Open House).

The due date to order a kit is July 15th.

If you would prefer to buy your school supplies separately and not order a kit, the list will be available on the Island Creek website next week.

Island Creek's Early Release Wednesdays for 2026-27

FCPS will continue with limited early release Wednesdays for elementary schools during the 2026-27 school year. The number of days has been reduced from eight to four.

Early release Wednesdays provide elementary teachers with a dedicated block of time to prepare lessons, participate in professional development and training, and collaborate with their peers. A well-supported and continuously improving teaching staff leads to better educational outcomes for students.

The dates for Island Creek Elementary's four early release Wednesdays (dismissal at 1:20) are as follows:

  • October 21

  • December 2

  • February 10

  • May 5

Visit the FCPS website for more information about early release Wednesdays.

Student Testing Results

Through June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, you can view a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.

Most scores are available in SIS ParentVUE. Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families

Websites for each test provide report translations and help with understanding test results.

f

Calendar Survey

FCPS values your input as we plan future school calendars. On Friday, June 5, all caregivers and FCPS staff received an email from noreply@fcps.edu containing a unique link to complete the FCPS Calendar Survey. Your feedback matters. Please take a few minutes to share your priorities and perspectives by Monday, June 22, at 11:59 p.m. Your individual responses will be kept confidential and will not be shared with school staff or used in any way that identifies you or your student. Only aggregate, summary-level results will be reported to the Fairfax County School Board.

Summer Meals for Students

Starting Monday, June 22, no-cost meals will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis at the sites and times listed on the FCPS Summer Food Service Program webpage. Students must remain on-site while eating their meals.

This year, thanks to generous support from Educate Fairfax, families may also receive one no-cost breakfast and lunch per adult at the following elementary schools: Braddock, Dogwood, Glen Forest, Hutchison, Hybla Valley, and London Towne. Summer sites will continue to be added, so check the Summer Food webpage regularly for updates.

Summer Immunization Events for All FCPS Students

Inspire Health Alliance, in partnership with FCPS, will be providing school-required immunizations this summer. Immunizations will be provided at no out-of-pocket cost to students or families. Registering families will be required to provide insurance information, if applicable, but students without insurance may still participate.

Visit the FCPS and Inspire Health Alliance Student Immunization Events webpage for dates, times, and locations. Additional event dates will be made available and shared four to five weeks prior to the event on the webpage. Additional immunization resources are also available.
