Farewells
Mrs. Sharon Grimes is retiring at the end of July. We are grateful for the support she has given to Edison Academy, JROTC, Global Stem, and Edison High School family, over the last five years. Sharon’s impact goes far beyond her daily responsibilities. She is deeply valued and well-loved by many students, families, and staff alike. Her strong work ethic, professionalism, and genuine passion for her role have made a lasting difference in our school community. Congratulations on retirement, you will be missed!
Mrs. Jenna McCabe is also leaving Edison Academy for Fairfax Academy as an Academy Resource Teacher (ART). As the Electrical Construction program grows to Fairfax Academy, she is going to be a valuable asset to kick-starting their program. We are grateful for the support, compassion, and dedication Jenna has shown our students, teachers, and staff during her time at Edison Academy. She goes above and beyond for others and will be greatly missed, but we are excited to see the impact she makes at Fairfax Academy.
Mr. Aaron King is an FCPS CARES Recipient
The FCPS CARES Program allows parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees who go above and beyond to help others and show they care about their students, colleagues, and the community. Below is an excerpt of the submission, for the full write up, click here.
"Mr. King took the initiative to bring in an industry professional so his students could connect classroom learning to real-world careers and opportunities. Throughout the session, he asked thoughtful questions, reinforced key points in student-friendly language, and made sure every concept was tied back to what his students are learning and where they can go next."
We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees at Edison High School Academy. We love our staff members; let's tell them how we feel! |

Year in Review
We have had an incredible year at Edison Academy with so much to celebrate. Here are a few of the highlights:
- We welcomed over 30 organizations as guest speakers throughout the year.
- We participated in 25 career and college events including work-based tours and leadership trainings.
- Our students logged over 3400 hours participating in high quality work-based learning internships, apprenticeships, externships, and job shadowing.
- Our School-based Enterprises integrated over 10,000 hours of career experience within the auto tech sales, grooming lab, culinary bistro, cosmetology salon, electrical haunted house, cyber arcade, and construction job site.
- Our students executed service learning initiatives including the food drive for Edison Pantry, pet supply drive for the Fairfax Humane Society, and gingerbread house day with canned food donations for Koinania Foundation.
- Our programs received over $36,000 in donations from incredible sponsors and business partners.
Our students passed 570 industry certifications within the trades, cyber, and human services. New this year in Veterinary Science 2 program was the Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) exam and every student passed! This means they are all certified to support veterinarians and vet technicians in animal care. Shout out to Marla Akau and Karen Nestlerode for preparing them for this accomplishment!
Thank you to our sponsors Jim Corridon Electric Company Inc., Ferguson, SkillForce, NECA, Local 26, Hatzel & Buehler, AUTO SUPPLY AND PARTS CO., Fraternal Order of Police, Washington Metropolitan Auto Body Association and Rivian.
Senior Decisions
This year when we asked seniors to tell us their plans after graduation we included an option for it to be shared on our social media pages. We are so proud of the varying paths they are taking and wish them the best. If you missed the celebration of our seniors on our social media pages, please check them out on Instagram or Facebook.
SkillsUSA Nationals
The SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference (NLSC) is the "World Cup" of career and technical education (CTE). Three of our students Maxwell Hatch (South Lakes), Jonathan Ortega Lopez (Justice), and Mohammad Al-Towaiti (Bryant) travelled to Atlanta, to join more than 19,000 attendees for a high-energy, week-long immersion into the skilled trades. They participated in an exciting mix of competition, professional networking, and personal growth. We are very proud of how they represented Edison Academy and showcased the skills developed in our Electrical Engineering and Construction and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning programs.
Teachers for Tomorrow
It’s a full circle moment for one of our former Teachers for Tomorrow students! North Springfield ES teacher Katie Villatoro-Aquice, who once sat in a Teachers for Tomorrow (TfT) classroom at Edison Academy hosted a TfT student intern of her own from Edison Academy.
Marissa Caceres (Annandale), interned in Katie's kindergarten classroom this spring and said the following about her experience. “Just wanted to share how lucky we are to have Marissa in our classroom. She is amazing with the students and has already built great relationships with them. She dove right in and has been pulling small groups for reading and checks in with tables during math stations. She keeps up with the craziness of kindergarten! We are excited to continue learning with the TfT student intern.”
The Teachers for Tomorrow program is an example of the long-term impact educators make for generations and a reminder that programs like Teachers for Tomorrow matter.
Edison Academy Cosmetology Students Brighten a 6th-Grade Party
Students from the Edison High School Academy Cosmetology program showcased their talents at the Cardinal Forest Elementary School 6th-grade promotion party. The organizers of the event said our Cosmetology volunteers brought joy, inclusivity, and plenty of style to the rising middle schoolers, creating lifelong memories for the Class of 2032.
Huge thank you to the following Cosmetology students from West Springfield Lucy Hebdon, Allie Horner, Ava Kauffman-Overlar, El Ross, Alexandra Sandoval, and Liz Thamasett, as well as Lake Braddock student Piper Borkenhagen for their contribution to the event.
According to Megan Neforos, Cardinal Forest parent and West Springfield High School Counselor "The pictures do not even begin to capture how inclusive and welcoming this part of our event was for the 6th graders." She went on to say "Ms. Irene Hall, the Cosmetology teacher at Edison High School, has created a family-like environment for her students. Their willingness to commit their time and energy to this event on a half-day of school is a testament to the type of classroom she runs and the values she fosters."
