A Message from Principal Delaney

Dear Fort Belvoir Primary Families,

As I think about our Fort Belvoir Primary community and the year ahead, I keep coming back to what matters most for our students.

Of course, strong academics matter. High expectations matter. Growth matters. But at the foundation of it all is something even more important: every child feeling that they belong.

At Fort Belvoir Primary, we want every student who walks through our doors to feel safe, welcomed, valued, and known. We want our students to know that they are an important part of our school family and that they have adults who believe in them, support them, and encourage them to do their very best every day.

At the same time, we know that belonging and high expectations go hand in hand. When children feel connected, they are more willing to take risks, learn from mistakes, build friendships, and grow as learners and as people. Our goal is to create an environment where students feel supported while also being challenged to reach their fullest potential.

Families are our most important partners, and your voice matters. As we continue our work to strengthen our school culture, we will be looking for opportunities to gather feedback, listen to your experiences, and learn from your perspectives. Together, we can build on our strengths and identify ways to ensure that every child and family feels connected and supported. We may not always have all the answers, but we are committed to listening, learning, and growing together.

Part of this work includes continuing important conversations about kindness, inclusion, healthy peer relationships, and bullying prevention so that every child feels safe, supported, and respected at school. Creating a positive school culture requires all of us ~ students, staff, and families ~ working together with a shared commitment to respect, empathy, and responsibility. In the coming months, families will have opportunities to participate in discussions and activities focused on strengthening our school community and supporting all students.

I believe deeply in the power of collaboration and in the incredible potential of our Fort Belvoir Primary community. When we listen to one another, work together, and keep our focus on what is best for children, we create the conditions for every student to thrive.

Thank you for your partnership, your trust, and the many ways you support our students and school. I am grateful to be part of this community and excited for the year ahead as we continue building a place where every child feels a sense of belonging and every family feels valued and heard.

With appreciation,

Eileen Delaney

School Board Adopts Fiscal Year 2027 Approved Budget

On May 21, the Fairfax County School Board unanimously adopted the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Approved Budget, continuing FCPS’ commitment to sustaining excellence by prioritizing competitive compensation and strategic investments that support student success.

The adopted budget reflects the division’s ongoing efforts to navigate a challenging fiscal environment shaped in part by chronic state underfunding and economic uncertainty. Despite these challenges, the budget maintains key investments and restores several reductions made during the prior fiscal year. Read about the FY 2027 Budget.

A Message from Nurse Shanie

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site  on  the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services. A medication authorization form is required for any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, to be kept at school. Please be sure medication orders are clear. All information on the form must be completed. Part I must be signed and dated by the parent or guardian. Part II must be signed and dated by your health care provider. Approved over-the-counter medications given for headaches, muscle aches, orthodontic pain, or menstrual cramps do not need a health care provider’s signature. Antibiotic or antiviral medications for 10 consecutive school days or less do not require a health care provider’s signature either. For all asthma medications, a Virginia Asthma Action Plan must be provided. More detailed information is available on the back of the medication authorization form(s).

Over-the-counter medication must be in the unopened original container and clearly labeled by the parent or guardian. No more than 100 pills/tablets of OTC medication should be brought to school at a time. All prescription medication, including samples, must be labeled by the pharmacist or health care provider. Please make sure that the label clearly states your student’s name, the name of the medication, the dosage of the medication, and the time to be given.

Your cooperation will ensure that we can safely give your student, their medication. If you have any questions, please contact your school health Public Health Nurse, Shahenil Grealish, at 703-781-2710.
