Caribbean American Heritage Month

June is Caribbean American Heritage Month. FCPS celebrates the rich diversity and honors the many contributions of immigrants of Caribbean heritage to our nation. Caribbean individuals are some of the most ethnically diverse in the world. There are more than 8.5 million individuals in the United States born in the Caribbean or of Caribbean ancestry. LGBTQIA+ History Month

In the month of June, we recognize the resilience and determination of the many individuals who are fighting to live freely and authentically. We stand with those facing an ongoing struggle against discrimination and injustice. This Pride Month, we reaffirm and uphold the dignity of LGBTQIA+ people. Each individual in our school community should feel valued for who they are. Visit our LGBTQIA+ Student Resources and Supports webpage

End-of-Year Information

Attendance

To report unexpected absences, please use the this Attendance Form or call the Edison Academy Office 24 Hour Attendance Line, 703-924-8137, or email us at EdisonAcademy.Attendance@fcps.edu to report the absence. Handwritten notes from parents delivered by students are not encouraged as a method of reporting absences.

Testing attendance

Academies do not receive notice of scheduled activities and testing from base schools. Activities, testing, and all other absences need to be reported directly by parents/guardians to the Academy so they can be recorded correctly on the Academy side. Use the links and information above to report attendance. This is true for all base schools (including Edison High School).

End of year attendance

  • Seniors: Your attendance for final exams, senior activities, and graduation will be automatically entered in SIS based on your base school's schedule. You do not need to report attendance for these days.
  • Underclass feeder students: Report any absences through June 4, the last day of Academy shuttles.
  • Underclass Edison students: Attendance will be marked through the last day of school.

June 4th - Last day for shuttles

Final day for all Edison Academy feeder student shuttles. Due to graduation for Edison High School students on June 5th, there will be no shuttles after June 4th and all feeder students should stay at their base schools.

Please note, starting on Friday, June 5th, parents of feeder students do not need to make attendance calls to Edison Academy for their students as they will only be reporting to their base school for the remainder of the school year.

Financial Obligations

Class Fees: Students taking an Edison Academy course with a class fee should ensure that their class fees are paid as soon as possible. If you have an outstanding class fee, you will be receiving an email reminder in the coming weeks. Fees can be paid anytime by logging into my MySchoolBucks and clicking on "Invoices."

Parking Tickets: Students who have received a parking ticket from Edison High School for parking on school grounds without a valid Edison Academy parking pass should take care of their parking fines as soon as possible. You can pay your parking fines by seeing Mrs. Grimes in the Academy Office.

Please note, both class fees and parking tickets are considered a financial obligation and will be reported to base schools if they go unpaid.

Around the Academy

Our HVAC students recently did a lesson on letter writing. In class, they learned how to write persuasive business letters, and then wrote letters to local HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) companies to either invite them to guest speak or to inquire about job opportunities.

Because of the students' excellent letters, guest speakers from Thomas J Fannon and Sons, Cardinal Plumbing, Trademasters, and Richards Heating & Air Conditioning came to visit us! These experts showed our students how heating and cooling systems work. They also talked about exciting careers in the building trades.

Our students did a wonderful job reaching out to our community and we are still fielding responses for visits in the upcoming school year. We are so proud of their hard work and communication skills!
