Finish Strong: Attendance Matters!

As we head into the final stretch of the school year, it’s easy to feel like summer has already arrived. However, we want to remind our families that attendance matters just as much now as it did in September.

Please help us ensure that your child comes to school these last days of school. We will be continuing instruction to ensure that students bridge the gap between their current grade and the next, preventing the "summer slide" before it even begins.

We want every student to cross the finish line feeling confident, prepared, and proud of their hard work.

Thank you for your continued partnership in making this school year a success. We look forward to seeing your child in class every day until the final bell!

💻 Action Required: Summer Device Take-Home Request

If you would like your child to keep their school-issued laptop and charger at home for the summer, please review the important guidelines and deadlines below.

Key Steps & Deadlines

  • Complete the Request Form: You must fill out the Google Form Link by Wednesday, June 3.

  • One Form Per Child: A separate form must be completed for each child attending Woodlawn who wishes to take their device home.

  • FCPS Summer Programs: If your child is enrolled in an FCPS summer program, they must bring their device and charger home for the summer.

Important Return & Care Information

  • Return Deadline: All summer devices and chargers must be returned by Thursday, July 30 so we can prep them for the new school year.

  • Summer School Drop-Off Exception: If your child is attending an FCPS summer program at Riverside Elementary or Lane Elementary, they can leave their device and charger at that school on the very last day of the program. We will pick them up and bring them back to Woodlawn for you!

  • Damaged or Missing Items: Families will be financially responsible and charged for any missing or damaged items.

  • Future Eligibility: Students will not be issued a laptop or charger for the upcoming school year if their summer device is not returned in good, working condition.

🎉 End-of-Year Activities: Community & Celebration!

As we head into the final weeks of the school year, we have an exciting lineup of events planned for our students from Thursday, May 28th through Wednesday, June 17th.

Our Goals:

  • Keep Attendance Strong: We want to encourage all students to continue coming to school every day after testing concludes.

  • Build Community: These events are designed to strengthen connections between students, teachers, and staff.

  • End on a High Note: We want to celebrate our students' hard work and finish the school year with joy and positive memories!

🗓️ Upcoming Highlights:

  • Thursday, May 28th – Pep Rally & Opening Ceremony: We will kick off our end-of-year festivities with an all-school pep rally to get everyone energized for the weeks ahead!

  • Friday, May 29th – Staff vs. Students Basketball Game: A school favorite! Come cheer on our students as they take on the Woodlawn staff on the court.

Thank you for helping us keep your children motivated, present, and excited for school until the very last day!

💻 Urgent: Missing Laptops and Chargers

We are currently missing dozens of school-issued chargers, which are vital for student use to complete this year and for use next school year.

How you can help:

  • Check your home: Please ensure your child (Grades 1–6) has returned their school-assigned laptop and charger to school.

  • Return missing items: If you find a charger at home, please send it back with your student immediately.

  • Replacement responsibility: Families are responsible for replacing lost or damaged equipment. If your child’s charger is lost, please visit our  Technology Page  (woodlawnes.fcps.edu/technology) for specifications and a convenient Amazon purchase link.

We will be contacting families of students with missing equipment over the coming month. Thank you for helping us keep our students powered up and ready to learn!
