Fairfax County Public Schools 2025-2026 Standard School Year Calendar
Dear Powell Puma Families,
As we head into the long weekend, we would like to wish all of our Powell families a safe, restful, and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.
Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States military. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and express gratitude for those who have served our country.
We also want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate all of our students who recently completed their SOL assessments. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, perseverance, and effort throughout testing. Thank you to our staff and families for supporting students during this important time.
Please note that students will return to school on Thursday, May 28 following the Memorial Day holiday. We hope everyone enjoys a wonderful long weekend filled with rest, family, and time together.
Have a great weekend!
Warmly, Catherine Han Principal

All books were due today, May 22nd. You will receive a notice from Mrs. Sejas listing what books your child still has out. Please return any remaining books to the library as soon as possible. If your child has a surplus of books, feel free to drop them off any time during the school day. If you believe you have already turned in those books or have any concerns, reach out to Mrs. Sejas via Talking Points.
Cash will not be accepted during this book fair. Setup your child's e-wallet so they can shop the fair https://www.bookwormbmaps.com/eWallet/
The first 100 students to create an E-wallet will receive a magnetic bookmark! E-wallets must be connected to a credit or debit card in order to make a purchase. Parents are welcome to shop the book fair during school hours, but may not pull their child from class. Our family night and art festival is on June 2nd from 5-8pm.

It’s a busy time of year, and we know many priorities are on your plate. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to check your student’s MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.
Free and Reduced-Price Meals
Families who earn less than 185% of the poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals (FRM). However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2026-27 school year will be available this summer.
If you have a current balance and think you may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2025-26 school year.
On Friday, May 8, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid provided an update on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Budget. FCPS receives the majority of its funding from the Fairfax County Government and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Fairfax County Government recently adopted its FY 2027 Budget, and at the funding levels provided, there is currently a $28 million budget gap. In addition, the state budget has not been finalized. At last Thursday's School Board meeting, the superintendent proposed adjustments that would balance the FCPS budget.
Read Dr. Reid’s message to the community for more information on the budget process and budget priorities.
