Hybla Happenings: May 22, 2026 Edition

Message From Hybla Valley Administration

Admin Team

Here’s a draft for the May 22 Administration message in your Hybla Valley Elementary newsletter:

Dear Hybla Valley Elementary Families,

As we head into the long weekend, we would like to wish all of our students, staff, and families a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. We hope you enjoy this special time with family and friends.

Please remember the following upcoming school closures:

  • Monday, May 25 – No School (Memorial Day)

  • Tuesday, May 26 – No School (Teacher Workday)

  • Wednesday, May 27 – No School (Eid al-Adha)

We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Thursday, May 28.

With warmer weather arriving, we also want to remind families that students should continue to wear sneakers to school each day, especially on days they have Physical Education (PE). Sneakers help keep students safe and comfortable while participating in activities.

As we begin preparing for the end of the school year, please note these important dates:

  • Last Day of School for PreK Students: Tuesday, June 16

  • Last Day of School for K–6 Students: Wednesday, June 17

    • Wednesday, June 17 will be a 2-hour early release day for ALL students.

    • Dismissal will be at 2:05 PM.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we finish the school year strong!

Sincerely,
Hybla Valley Elementary Administration

Staying Focused and Safe: A Reminder on Cell Phone Policy and Digital Citizenship

Digital Citizenship

At Hybla Valley Elementary, our primary goal is to foster an environment where every student can focus on their studies, build meaningful face-to-face friendships, and feel safe throughout the school day. To support this, we want to provide a friendly reminder regarding the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) policy concerning personal devices.

📱 Our Cell Phone Policy

Per FCPS regulations, elementary students are expected to keep their cell phones and personal devices turned off and put away (in backpacks) for the duration of the school day. This helps ensure that the classroom remains a distraction-free zone dedicated to learning.

Should a student have their device out during the day, we follow a tiered approach to redirection:

  • First Offense: The device will be confiscated and held in the main office. The student may pick up their phone at the end of the school day.
  • Subsequent Offenses: The device will be confiscated and held in the office. A parent or guardian will be required to come to the school to pick up the device.

🌐 Digital Safety and Social Media

While technology is a powerful tool, we have noted an increase in student incidents this year stemming from unsupervised use of social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat. We have seen instances where students use these platforms to message hurtful comments to one another or post videos of peers without consent.

These digital interactions often carry over into the school building, disrupting the learning environment and hurting student relationships. We encourage families to be vigilant and regularly monitor your child's devices, apps, and private messages. Partnering for success by keeping devices tucked away during school hours, we allow our Husky scholars to fully engage with their teachers and classmates. We appreciate your partnership in helping our students navigate the digital world responsibly and keep their focus on their academic growth.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping Hybla Valley a safe and focused place to learn.

PreK

Additional Student Attendance Days for PreK and ECCB Programs

Due to school closures resulting from this year's winter storm, additional school days will be added for students in PreK and ECCB programs to ensure grant compliance instructional hours are met.

The addition of these instructional days for students remains within the teacher and instructional assistant contract days.

Additional PreK and ECCB student attendance days

  •  PreK, ECCB AM and PM students: Last day of school will be Tuesday, June 16, 2026

Two home visits and two conferences are still required for each student with this modified schedule. To support fulfilling the home visit requirement, PreK teachers will be provided one substitute day to use before the end of the school year. AM and PM ECCB teachers may use the portion of their day when not serving students to complete home visits.

Families may request flexible options to accommodate their schedules and preferences, including:

  • Virtual home visits
  • In-person visits at the school
  • In-person visits at the family's home

Teachers are encouraged to work with families to determine which option best suits their circumstances while ensuring home visit requirements are completed by June 18th.

Required Immunizations for Rising 7th Graders

7th Grade Immunizations

As required by the Code of VA, parents or legal guardians need to provide proof of immunizations for their child to attend at a Virginia public school.

In addition, all students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations

  • Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap) given at age 7 or older;
  • Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) given at age 10 or older;
  • A complete series of 2 doses of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
  • After reviewing educational materials approved by the Board of Health, the parent or guardian, at the parents or guardians sole discretion, may elect for the child not to receive the HPV vaccine.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with your child’s healthcare provider now to avoid the rush this summer. Immunization appointments are available. Inspire Health Alliance will be providing immunizations for currently enrolled FCPS students at no out-of-pocket cost. Visit the Inspire Immunization Events Student Registration webpage to schedule an appointment.

Please review the Virginia Department of Health Information Packet (PDF) for more information on rising 7th grade immunization requirements.

Additional Immunization Resources are also available.

  • Tétanos, refuerzo contra la Difteria y la tos Ferina (Tdap, por sus siglas en inglés) recibida a los 7 años o mayor;
  • Vacuna contra el meningococo (MenACWY, por sus siglas en inglés) recibida a los 10 años o mayor;
