Academic Advising Update – Parent Acknowledgement Feature: As the Academic Advising and Course Selection period draws to a close, we want to ensure all families feel confident about their child's educational path. To facilitate this, SIS ParentVUE now allows Parents/Guardians to review and acknowledge their student's course requests for the 2026-27 school year. This acknowledgement window is open from March 16-March 27, 2026. Please note that this information is not a schedule - It is simply a list of courses only. Schedules will be finalized and released in August before school starts.
Instructions to view and acknowledge course requests:
- Log into your ParentVUE account.
- From left menu, select "Course Request"
- Review your student’s courses for next school year
- From the left menu, select "Student Info"
- Select "Edit Information"
- Locate "Course Request Acknowledgment"
- Update the acknowledgment field to "Yes" to confirm review
- Select "Save Changes"

All senior mid-semester transcripts have been submitted to the appropriate colleges. If students receive an email that is addressed directly to the student, that is personalized (not automated), and from an actual admissions representative (vs the Admissions Office or generic email address) stating that they have yet to receive the mid-semester transcript, please contact the student's School Counselor. They will be able to provide how they uploaded your transcript and a confirmation ID (if applicable). You can provide this information to the Admissions representative who contacted you. More often than not, the transcript is in the college system, but the college software is having difficulty processing the transcript to attach to your college application. By providing them with how the transcript was uploaded, date of upload, and confirmation ID (if applicable) will help them locate the transcript.
All prior schedule change request windows have closed for the School Year 2025-2026.

No more course change requests for SY26-27 will be accepted after April 24, 2026 and students will need to wait until school starts. We have to ensure that new student transfers to Justice are able to still have seats available in needed courses for graduation.

April 25-September 4, 2026: No Schedule Changes will be made in order to support new student/transfer registrations, final grades from summer programming, hard conflicts, errors in placement, or discussions on any schedule changes that occurred over the summer

September 8-25, 2026:Schedule Change Requests open for both Elective and Academic Level. All requests are pending space availability in the requested course and pending parent, teacher, and Subject Administrator approval. Schedule Change Request Form will be located in Student Services. All elective course changes must be completed within this window (Example: Art 1 to Photography 1).
- September 28, 2026-January 29, 2027:
- No Elective Change Requests
- All Academic Level Change Requests (Example: English 9 Honors to English 9) must complete the Academic Improvement Plan that involves a parent/teacher/student conference. The Academic Improvement Plan form will be located in Student Services.
- After the Academic Improvement Plan is completed and the student still wishes to move forward with the academic level change, the schedule request will be reviewed by a committee. Approval is not guaranteed and is based on seat availability in the requested course

A new Graduation Status section is now available in ParentVUE and StudentVUE. The Graduation Status is a tool that helps parents and students monitor and track their progress in meeting graduation requirements. This feature includes progress towards the Standard or Advanced Studies diploma for high school students and middle school students who have enrolled in one or more high school courses. This new graduation status section is available in addition to the course history and unofficial transcript options in ParentVUE and StudentVUE. To view the graduation status section, please take the following steps:
- Login to your SIS ParentVUE Account
- Go to “Course History” for your middle or high school student
- Go to “Graduation Status” and toggle “on”
All seniors must have the Consent to Share Transcript to Colleges on file in order for the school to send the official transcript to 2-year/4-year colleges, military academies, military branches, scholarship organizations, and others. If this consent is not on file, we will not be able to release the official transcript to these organizations.
Part One: Please return completed forms to Ms. Bond in Student Services. If you've already signed the form, no need to sign again.
Part Two: Students must submit an Official Transcript Request for EACH college/university and indicate whether we need to upload the transcript to a college portal, Common Application, Coalition Application, or email/mail directly to the College Admissions Office.

Federal Student Aid has made the 2026-27 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available ahead of the scheduled release date. Any college-bound high school senior — regardless of income — who wants to be considered for federal, state, and school financial aid programs should complete a FAFSA form. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to work with their students to complete the FAFSA as early as possible. Families should check each college’s financial aid office website for deadlines and financial aid forms. They will need to create an account to fill out the FAFSA. |

The Virginia Alternative State Aid (VASA) application for 2026-27 is OPEN!
The VASA is an option for students who have certain nonimmigrant visas, are undocumented, have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status or are otherwise ineligible to file a FAFSA.
NOTE: The VASA application only provides access to Virginia State Financial Aid and possibly Virginia college/university aid. The VASA is not for out-of-state/out-of-country colleges/universities.
The easiest way to access the application is through Level Up Virginia's website.

Seniors be sure to complete your application for needs-based scholarships from the JHSSF by the April 8, 2026 deadline. Last year, JHSSF awarded $310,000 in scholarships to 107 JHS seniors. You may use these scholarships to attend a trade school, community college, or a four-year college or university either in Virginia or out-of-state.
Applicants will have until April 15 to complete the short supplemental applications for the Casey Schulman Foundation, Thurgood Marshall Fund, and Baileys Crossroads Rotary Scholarships. Our community partners awarded an additional $120,000 in scholarships in 2025.

Educate Fairfax, the 501(c)3 education foundation that partners with the community to support Fairfax County Public Schools students and educators, is launching a divisionwide Student Bookmark Art Contest during March. FCPS students in grades K–12 are invited to design a 2” x 7” bookmark celebrating the power of learning and creativity under the theme “Today’s Reader, Tomorrow’s Leader.”
Artwork must be original, flat (no glitter or pop-ups), and include the student’s name, grade, and school on the back. Entries will be judged on creativity, connection to the theme, and overall effort. Four winners (K–2, 3–6, middle, and high) will each receive a $25 gift card, and winning designs will be printed and shared in schools and the community. This initiative supports FCPS Goal 3 by promoting literacy and student engagement.
Submissions may be mailed to Educate Fairfax (8270 Willow Oaks Corporate Drive, Fairfax, VA 22031), emailed to info@educatefairfax.org, or sent via pony mail. By submitting, students confirm FCPS enrollment and grant permission for printing and promotion (first name and grade only; parent/guardian signature required for winners).

Opportunities include full-time, part-time, and seasonal employment, as well as volunteer opportunities, internships, resume workshops, cover letter workshops, and more!
Students need to be prepared to engage with potential employers. It is encouraged to wear business-casual attire and have multiple copies of resume.

Hosted in Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia since 1963, the National Youth Science Camp (NYSCamp) is a residential science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) program designed to honor and challenge some of the nation’s rising leaders and provide them with opportunities to engage with STEAM professionals and participate in exciting outdoor activities.
The NYSCamp is a residential science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics program open to current high school juniors and seniors. Two students will be selected to represent Virginia as delegates in this fully in-person experience, which will take place July 11–August 1, 2026. The program is offered by the National Youth Science Camp at no cost to selected participants.

Camp Woods & Wildlife is being offered through the Virginia Department of Forestry. It will be held June 15-19, 2026 at Holiday Lake 4-H Center near Appomattox. This hands-on, career-focused overnight camp is open to any Virginia student aged 13-16 who has not attended before. The curriculum covers many aspects of forest and wildlife ecology and management. Classes are taught in the field by natural resource professionals.
Camp Woods and Wildlife is ideal for students who:
- Wish to explore forestry and wildlife related careers,
- Participate in forestry and wildlife judging teams, Envirothon competitions, or ecology clubs, and
- Want to experience hands-on learning and gain real-world skills in natural resources conservation

All Fairfax County middle and high school students can get a Student Bus Pass SmarTrip card to ride the Fairfax Connector and Fairfax CUE buses for free! With the pass, fares are free from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, all year. Learn more about the Student Pass. Complete the application and return it to Ms. Bond in Student Services (or pick up a paper application)
Our students can ride Metrobus for free, in addition to the Fairfax Connector and City of Fairfax CUE. Visit the Fairfax County website for details and approved Metrobus routes. Complete the application and return it to our front office.
If students ride on an unauthorized route, MetroBus will deactivate the card immediately. Students can receive up to two replacement cards.

Justice High School is a proud partner with Food for Neighbors, a local organization who helps to feed our students outside of school hours.
The Red Bag Program is filled five times a year and provided to needy families. Food for Neighbors will drop off an empty Red Bag with a list of items. You can support by purchasing some food items that is provided on the list. Leave the Red Bag outside your door and Food for Neighbors will come pick it up.
All donations are tax-deductible and can be in any amount. To learn more about the FFN Holiday Meals Program, please go here.

The Fairfax County Department of Family Services will be offering their Dad's Parenting Groups starting in February 2026 or March 2026 or May 2026.
Fathers, like mothers, play a significant role in their children’s psychological and emotional development. Positive father involvement contributes directly to children’s well-being, safety and stability. Dads Parenting Groups use the 24/7 Dad™ curriculum to focus on helping fathers to improve self-awareness, self-care, parenting skills and relationship skills. There are about 13 sessions.

Fairfax County Department of Family Services and the Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) is offering for their next Virtual Parent Cafe: "The Power of Play in Parenting".
Play is the language of children and as parents we can increase our connection with children by joining them in it. Children of all ages experience greater confidence, fewer behavioral issues, and improved mental health when caregivers use the power of play in their daily interactions with them.
Learn about the importance of play and how to incorporate it in your interactions with your children.
Formed Families Forward is offering the free Fairfax Kinship Support Groups in partnership with the Department of Family Services.
Are you raising a child for a family member or friend? Join other kinship caregivers to discuss your experiences, concerns, and frustrations with your peers. This group offers a network to share resources and information among the group members, reducing feelings of isolation, and celebrating family successes in maintaining permanency for and the ongoing commitment to building strong families.
In-person groups will be held at Fairfax County Community Centers with the support of Neighborhood and Community Services on the third Thursday of each month. Virtual Groups will be offered on the first Thursday of each month via Zoom. Register online.
Fairfax County Department of Family Services offers The Parent Support Line (PSL) for parents and caregivers of children ages 0-18 years old. Talk with trained parenting specialists for guidance on a wide range of topics including the stages of child development (0-18 years), reducing parental stress, strengthening the parent-child bond, and accessing community resources.
The PSL is a trusted resource for parents and caregivers across different social, financial, and educational backgrounds, and parenting styles. Anyone who works with children is also welcome to call with questions or concerns. Language support is available.

FCPS sends automatic weekly progress reports for each class for Middle and High School students but only if you have opted-in to receive them in ParentVUE.

Virtual therapy sessions are available to FCPS high school students at no cost to provide a safe space to address concerns such as:
- Mood/behavior changes, motivation, grief/loss
- Anxiety, worry, fears
- Social skills, bullying, peer and family relationships
- Academic stress
You may refer your child by calling 571-749-2940 or by contacting our school counselor, social worker, psychologist, or director of Student Services. Visit the FCPS Teletherapy webpage for more information.
Children go through a lot of changes, and it can be hard to tell if their behavior is developmentally appropriate or if they could benefit from mental health support. It’s important to talk to your child and pay attention to their actions, especially these warning signs:
- Increased irritability, hyperactivity, energy, and/or aggressive behavior.
- Excessive sadness, hopelessness, or worries.
- Loss of appetite, or significant weight gain or loss.
- Lack of sleep or too much sleep.
- A decline in grades, school avoidance, or attendance concerns.
- Alcohol or drug use.
- Withdrawal from activities and/or friends and family.
- Thoughts of harming themselves or others.
If you notice any of these warning signs or feel your child may be experiencing a mental health challenge, help is available. Please contact your child's school counselor to discuss your concerns and identify resources. Find additional ways to support your child’s wellness.
If you or someone you care about is experiencing a mental health crisis such as thoughts of harming themselves or others, please take action right away. Call 988, go to the nearest emergency room, or contact the Sharon Bulova Center for Community Health Emergency Services at 703-573-5679.
