Help us reach our goal of 4% or less this year!

Attendance is a vital life skill that will benefit your child later in life. It’s a good habit to build now to help them graduate from college on time and routinely report to work on time once they have a career.

By highlighting this important information, we aim to keep our families informed and energized about our collective efforts to encourage regular school attendance

Spotlight on Specials:  Music

It has been a fun Quarter 3 in music class! We have returned to a focus on music literacy concepts across the grade levels.

Kindergarten: high and low sounds, melodic contour

Grade 1: Rhythms with quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rest

Grade 2: Melodies with sol, mi, and la

Grade 3: Reading and moving to music in 2/4 time signature; melodies with do, mi, sol, and la

Grade 4: Rhythms with quarter notes, eighth notes, half notes, quarter rest, sixteenth notes, and whole notes; melodies in the do pentatonic scale

Grade 5: Reading and moving to music in 4/4 time signature; melodies in the do pentatonic scale

Grade 6: Rhythms with sixteenth and eighth note combinations; melodies in the extended do pentatonic scale

In addition to our literacy focus, we have been listening to Jazz across the grade levels! Children in younger grades are identifying instruments that are often found in jazz music. Children in upper grades are listening and responding to some of the great works of jazz musicians such as Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, and John Coltrane.

Our 6th Grade Honors Chorus singers are hard at work, preparing for their April festival. They have attended two site rehearsals in the 3rd quarter, working with students from other FCPS schools to rehearse music for their upcoming concert.
