Woodson Weekly is published every Monday to provide the community with important information about school life at Woodson High School.
Vision Statement
Carter G. Woodson High School is a community that embraces diversity in a culture of improvement and success that promotes academic curiosity and individual mental and physical growth.
Cav Kudos winners are students who have demonstrated acts of kindness and good citizenship that reflect our school's mission
Message from Mr. Greata
For those who were able to join us last Friday, our FanQuest was a truly spectacular success. It was a high-energy evening filled with dancing, staff obstacle courses, and a hard-fought basketball game against Robinson that kept us all on the edge of our seats. We saw incredible athleticism and "edge-of-your-seat" moments from our students, and we owe a massive thank you to our sponsors, Megan Pitts, Ashley Neal, Eileen Reap, Angela Harrison and Kevin Crenshaw, for making the night possible.
That spirit of excellence continues into our classrooms and clubs, as STEM education is truly thriving here at Carter G. Woodson High School. Our students have been working for months on complex projects, and I am thrilled to share some tremendous results from this past weekend. First, please join me in congratulating our first-prize winners at the Regional Science Fair: Joelle Rice, Gao Zexuan, Julian Miller, Anne Brady and Avery Chiang. A special congratulations also goes to Logan Lee and Lucas Shen Mayu Zuniga, who not only won first-prize, they were named Grand Prize Alternates!
We had 45 students participate this year in the Regional Science Fair, and I encourage you to visit our Student Recognition Page to see the full list of names. This level of participation and achievement is supported by our amazing science teachers and led by Laura Barry and Sara Duarte. A huge shout out for their dedication to the success of our students.
Our success extended to Robotics where our team won their district competition this weekend. Under the steady and committed leadership of sponsor Adrian Jensen and our tireless parent volunteers, our students demonstrated the power of innovation. Robotics is unique in that teams compete individually but then collaborate for the finals; after a strong showing, the top-ranked team chose the Woodson team to join their alliance, leading us straight to the championship. This blend of creativity and collaboration is truly a look into the future of our workforce.
As we look toward the final stretch of the term, please keep in mind that there are only two weeks left in the third quarter. This is an ideal time to check in with your students on their grades and progress. If you haven’t yet signed up for a ParentVue account, you can sign up directly here. Once your account is active, you can even opt-in for weekly progress reports sent straight to your email. Further details about specific grading dates for the quarter and access to your child’s course verifications are included below in the weekly.
Finally, please remember that this is a short week. We have a three-hour early release this afternoon, and school will be closed this Friday in observance of Eid al-Fitr. We hope you all stay safe during today's early release and have a wonderful, productive week ahead.
Go Cavaliers!

Academic Advising Update – Parent Acknowledgement
As the Academic Advising and course selection window draws to a close, we want to ensure all parents/guardians are aware of their child’s course selections for next year and feel confident about their child's educational path.
To facilitate this, SIS ParentVUE now allows parents/guardians to review and acknowledge their student's course requests for the 2026-27 school year. This acknowledgement window is open from March 16 - March 27, 2026.
Please note that the courses listed in ParentVUE is not a schedule. It is only a list of requested courses for next school year. Class schedules will be finalized and released in August the week before school begins.
Please see below for instructions to view and acknowledge course requests in ParentVUE:
- Log into your ParentVUE account.
- Navigate to the Course Request module.
- Review your student’s course request list for next school year.
- Navigate to the Student Info module.
- Click Edit Information.
- Locate the Course Request Acknowledgment field.
- Update the acknowledgment field to Yes to confirm review.
- Click Save Changes.
If you would like to submit any changes to your child’s course requests for next year, please contact your child’s counselor by Friday, March 27, 2026. That is the final deadline for submitting any change requests for next year.
If you do not have a ParentVUE account, please visit the SIS Parent Accounts website.
Please contact Josh Peters, Director of Student Services, with any questions about confirming your child’s course requests in ParentVUE.
Counselor Corner
Counselors continue to meet with students for Academic Advising meetings through March 17. Any student who was absent or missed their meeting for some reason will be seen by March 19. Counselors will automatically send for remaining students; there is no need to request a meeting.
Academy enrollments closed on March 6. We expect the Academy decisions to be shared with families in April. The upcoming deadline for students who requested a Dual Enrollment course(s) to apply to NOVA and enter the courses(s) in the MyNOVA portal is March 24. This is a firm NOVA deadline. Students were given this checklist to follow, which includes information about a mandatory virtual orientation as well.
Finally, students who would like to change a course request for next year may do so via email to their counselor by March 27. Ms. Bopp’s students may email Mr. Peters at fjpeters@fcps.edu. All students should check their 2026-27SY course requests for accuracy in SIS by clicking on "course requests" from the menu.
We are excited to host Sophomore Post-Secondary Planning night on Wednesday, March 11 at 6:30 pm in the Auditorium. We reviewed resources located on the Sophomore padlet during academic advising meetings, including the 10th grade Road Map and college planning timeline.
Seniors who intend to begin their college journey at NOVA should plan to attend the NOVA Enrollment Workshop on March 19 during Returns in the Career Center. All NOVA-bound seniors are welcome to join! Register in Naviance > Colleges tab> College Visits.
Partners for Safe Teen Driving Seminars
Attention all 10th grade students and their parents. All new drivers and parents must attend a state mandated traffic safety seminar, Partners for Safe Teen Driving. Please mark your calendar for the Woodson seminars for 2025-2026. Seminars will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will take place in the Woodson Auditorium. You do NOT have to register for this, attendance will be taken at the presentation.
