TONIGHT: Chantilly Cultural Night

Chantilly's Cultural Night Poster

Join us for an evening of food, culture, and performances at our annual Cultural Night on Friday, March 13th! The night will begin in the cafeteria at 5:30 PM with delicious food and cultural displays presented by Chantilly’s clubs. Please bring cash to purchase food and help support our student organizations. At 7:00 PM, we will move to the auditorium for performances from around the world, featuring our very own Chantilly students proudly representing their cultures. Come celebrate the diversity that makes Chantilly such a special community. We hope to see you there!

A Note from Dr. Goodloe:

Dear Chantilly Community,

WE hope to see you this evening as the Chantiilly community celebrates our rich and diverse culture and the joy of coming together to highlight our colllective strengths and talens. WE are Chantilly!!!

I have included several important reminders that impact student safety and learning below.  Please read and discuss as a family. I encourage you to reach out to school staff with questions. The Chantilly staff is grateful for your support and partnership.

Chantilly student drop off and pick up:

We have had increased complaints about students parking and traffic congestion in Shenandoah Apartments and Greenbriar Neighborhoods. Please be a good neighbor and do not use these areas to drop off or pick up Chantilly students:

  • Please used the Chantilly Kiss and Ride lane for student drop off.
  • Please pick students up in the Chantilly parking lot after 3:05 PM
  • Violators may be ticketed or towed

Cell Phone Policy Reminders

Phones Off, Learning On

FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students focus, learn, and engage. When students put their phones away, they have more face-to-face interactions with their peers and teachers and more opportunities to develop resilience and problem-solving skills. Please remind your child that:

  • Cell phones and personal devices (earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell) with the exception of lunch time in designated lunch spaces.
  • Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.

If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call our front office at [phone number]. Visit our cell phone policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions.

Google Sites Blocked on FCPS network

Due to observed student misuse and gaming during class, starting today, Chantilly HS will block all external Google Sites.  Google Sites starting with the URL sites.google.com that do not originate from our official FCPS domain will be automatically blocked on all FCPS devices where a student is logged in. Many students use these sites to circumvent our content filter to access gaming sites Students can still access their created Google Sites through their Google Drive account and then filter the drive by the “site” type. This will display all the student's created sites. Students can also still access all internal Google Sites by navigating to the URL of the site

Community Conversations:

Community Conversations: Share Your Thoughts With Dr. Reid

As a listening leader, connecting with community members across our school division is critical to FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. Her Community Conversations are opportunities for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) on:

Click on a date to register to attend that event. Registration is not required, but helps with planning, especially for child care and interpretation services. Events are open to all. Visit the superintendent’s engagement page for the most up-to-date information.

Empowering Families to Explore AI

Common Sense Media recently released a new AI literacy video and toolkit designed to help families understand how artificial intelligence (AI) is showing up in students' schoolwork and how to use it for actual learning rather than instant assignment completion.

Titled "Using AI Wisely for School Success," this series addresses the growing presence of AI in classrooms. While AI can help students test their knowledge of subject matter and grow their skills, the purpose of the toolkit is to emphasize that real, long-lasting learning still requires effort and active engagement. The video offers families practical guidance for supporting kids as they navigate the rise of AI in education, breaking down when AI can be helpful and when it can get in the way of building critical thinking skills.

Review of the 2020 Digital Learning Integration Standards of Learning

At its November 13, 2025, meeting, the Virginia Board of Education authorized the Virginia Department of Education to begin reviewing the Digital Learning Integration (DLI) Standards of Learning (SOL). The review is expected to be completed by Summer 2027.

An important part of the review process is gathering public feedback. We invite classroom teachers, students, parents, administrators, curriculum supervisors, Instructional Technology Resource Teachers (ITRTs), librarians, and other stakeholders to share their input using the 2020 DLI SOL Public Comment form, will remain open until March 30, 2026. The form also includes application questions for those interested in serving on the review committee. Selected steering committee members will be contacted in March and review committee members will be contacted in May.

Attendance: Be PRESENT!

At Chantilly, we believe the best learning happens when our entire community is present.  We value the importance of family time and also want to share a reminder regarding the Virginia Compulsory Attendance Law.

Under state guidelines, vacations are classified as elective absences, which are recorded as unexcused absences.  In these cases, the parent supports the absence but this does not qualify them under state-mandated reporting of excused absences.  VAC 8VAC20-720-10 defines an unexcused absence as any absence where the parent or caregiver’s reason is “unacceptable to the school administration.” Given the compulsory attendance law and that vacations are an elective absence–regardless of whether they were pre-arranged or not–it falls under the unexcused category.  Families are encouraged to plan trips and vacations during designated school holidays to minimize absences during school hours and ensure uninterrupted instruction.

We urge parents and guardians to collaborate with our school support teams to encourage consistent attendance. Together, we can ensure every student receives the high-quality education they deserve.

Thank you for your continued support!

You can refer to the FCPS attendance page for more information about attendance codes and other attendance-related matters: FCPS Attendance Policies.

Checking out early?

The best and most efficient way to check your student out of school early is to send a note with them to take to their Subschool Office in the morning! Or call your child's subschool before 9 a.m. to request early dismissal. You can find the phone numbers at the bottom of this email and on the Chantilly Attendance page.

  • Your student will receive a pass to leave class at the time you specify.
  • You won't need to come inside the school; your student will simply come out to meet you.

Please be aware that if you sign your student out in person, it can take up to 30 minutes for the pass to reach them. Sending a note is always the quickest option!

Important Reminders:

  • Email is not accepted for reporting absences or early checkouts.
  • If a student becomes sick during the school day, they must be checked out through the clinic, not the Subschool Office, or by text with the student..

Volunteer FCPS

Volunteer FCPS Helps Community Members Connect With Schools

The new volunteer management system, Volunteer FCPS, allows individuals to search and register for volunteer opportunities at our school or across the school district.

Volunteer FCPS is how FCPS provides a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. Anyone interested in volunteering with FCPS must:

  • Create a profile in Volunteer FCPS.
  • Register for opportunities through Volunteer FCPS.
  • Sign in and out of schools using the visitor kiosk on EVERY visit – no exceptions.

Recent Updates to Volunteer Opportunity Levels

Due to the overwhelming response, FCPS is temporarily pausing fingerprint requirements for most Level 3 volunteers. Those who have already been fingerprinted will be processed to be eligible for all Level 3 opportunities.

Field trip chaperone opportunities will now be classified as Level 2 (not requiring a comprehensive background check that includes fingerprinting).

To ensure continuous safety, all new volunteers are required to sign a Volunteer Certification Statement. This statement is a legal confirmation that you have no history of violent felonies, physical or sexual crimes against children, or crimes of moral turpitude (dishonesty, fraud, things that are immoral by society’s standards).

Visit the Volunteer FCPS website to complete a volunteer orientation. View Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about the volunteer levels.
