I hope you enjoyed today’s unexpected snow day and had a chance to relax and make a few cozy memories at home. We look forward to welcoming our students back tomorrow as we return to our regular routine.
As we continue through February, we are also continuing to celebrate Black History Month. At Fort Belvoir Primary, we recognize this month by focusing on kindness, fairness, community, and learning about others in ways that are meaningful and developmentally appropriate for our youngest students.

Staff Spotlight: Tonja Walden
Meet Tonja Walden, a second-grade teacher at Fort Belvoir Primary and the great-great-great niece of Frederick Douglass. In a powerful Black History Month feature for FCPS, Ms. Walden shares how her family legacy fuels her passion for education, literacy, and inspiring young minds.
In her reflection, Ms. Walden highlights Frederick Douglass’ resilience, the transformative power of reading, and the importance of teaching Black history to all students. Her story reminds us that literacy is a pathway to freedom, voice, and opportunity ~ and that educators play a critical role in helping students see what is possible.

Families and community members are invited to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and uplift the voices shaping our future at FCPS’ Second Annual Black History Month Celebration. Rooted in Resilience: Echoes of Excellence will take place on Wednesday, February 25, at 6 p.m., at Carter G. Woodson High School.
The event will honor the rich history, strength, and contributions of the Black community through inspiring student performances and a powerful keynote address by Rev. Vernon C. Walton, pastor of First Baptist Church of Vienna. Light refreshments will be available.

Scholastic Book Fair is coming February 27 – March 6! This will be a CASHLESS Book Fair. Please create an eWallet for your child or come shop during our family shop nights 4:30pm – 6:30pm:
