Reading Growth Highlights
Our K to 3 VALLSS reading data shows clear and measurable improvement from fall to winter:
- Students in the low risk band increased from 119 to 153
- Students in the moderate risk band decreased from 59 to 31
- Students in the high risk band decreased from 32 to 26
This movement reflects a substantial shift of students into lower risk categories and toward grade level proficiency.
In grades 3 to 6, our iReady reading results also demonstrate strong overall growth from fall to winter. Across these grade levels:
- Students meeting expectations increased from an average of 58.2 percent in the fall to 71.0 percent in the winter, a gain of nearly 13 percentage points
- Students in the approaching range decreased from 25.9 percent to 16.6 percent
- Students in the below range decreased from 15.9 percent to 12.4 percent
These results show a clear trend of more students performing on grade level and fewer students requiring intensive support.
Math Growth Highlights
Compared to peers across the country, our students’ MAP math performance increased from the 75th percentile in the fall to the 80th percentile in the winter.
Overall, our growth placed us in the 65th percentile nationally in positive growth.
Every grade level demonstrated above average growth, and all grades are currently identified as both high performance and high growth, an exceptional achievement!

Expanding School-Wide Community Initiatives
Celebrating Our Community
We hosted several events to support community partnership to include:
We continue to prioritize regular attendance to maximize learning time.
-
Absenteeism Rate: We continue to monitor absenteeism on a regular basis as lowering chronic absenteeism across the division continues to be a goal. If you have any questions about your child being absent or any notifications about absenteeism that you may receive, please contact the main office and they will direct your call.
-
Chronic Absenteeism: Our chronic absenteeism rate is 4.2%, which is a 5.7% decrease from this point last year. A student is considered chronically absent when they have missed more than 10% of the school year to date. A student is considered chronically absent for the year if they have missed 18 or more days of school.
As we enter Quarter 3, we will continue to strengthen literacy instruction, expand rich mathematical problem solving opportunities, provide targeted intervention and enrichment, and deepen professional learning to ensure instructional consistency.
The academic growth we are celebrating reflects the dedication of our students, staff, and families. Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support.
West Springfield Elementary has set a strong foundation this quarter, and we look forward to a successful Quarter 3!
