SAVE THE DATE -
PTA BASKETBALL COMING UP!
Dear Fairhill Families,
We hope you all enjoyed the unexpected long weekend and had a chance to get outside and play in the snow before it melted. A surprise snowfall always feels a little magical, especially when it gives us extra time together.
Back at school, things at Fairhill are going wonderfully. Classrooms are buzzing with strong teaching and learning, and we continue to stay grounded in our core value of rigorous instruction. Our staff is committed to providing engaging, meaningful learning experiences that challenge and support every student. It is exciting to see the growth happening across grade levels.
As we think about connections beyond the classroom, now is a great time to put our PTA Fairhill Staff Basketball Game on your calendar if you have not already done so. Join us on March 13 at Falls Church High School for this fun community event. More information will be coming soon, but we hope you will plan to be there and cheer on the team.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are grateful for our Fairhill community.
All our best
Ted & Maura

Fairhill Career Fair!
We are preparing for our Career Fair, “ The Possibilities Start Here.” The purpose of our career fair is for our students to further prepare them for the future, provide them with information about the World of Work, and have lots of Career Day fun!
This is our sixth annual career fair; we are EXTREMELY excited to invite you (or someone you know) to participate with us! We need you or a few representatives from a place of employment. We will have tables and chairs positioned for you in our gymnasium. At your table, you may dress in the clothing you wear for your career, provide information, show a video, answer questions, hand out literature and/or promotional items & enjoy interacting with the work force of the future!
We have set this year’s date for Friday April 24, 2026 from 1:15-3:30. This time will allow our career fair to come to a close with the option to exit the building before dismissal at 4:05. Participating parents may wait to pick up their children at dismissal.
Students in grades K through 6 will be participating over three sessions. As such, we will be sure to send out more logistical information closer to the date.
If you know someone who is interested in participating- a neighbor, loved one, relative, colleague, friend, Fairhill parents/caregivers, your place of employment or service provider, ex. your electrician, your medical provider, your hairdresser or barber, etc… please forward to interested participants, or connect them to us!

Celebrate with a Story!
Celebrate your child’s birthday or another special event in an exciting way by donating a book to the Fairhill Library! Parents and children can select and purchase a title from the Fairhill Library’s Amazon Wishlist, which will be delivered directly to the school. During library time, Ms. Howard will help your child create a personalized dedication label for their donated book. It’s a wonderful way to honor your child while giving the gift of reading for all Fairhill students to enjoy!

Calling for Volunteers: Help to Make a Big Difference in our community
The Fairhill PTA again will continue to support Fairhill families and our broader local community by collecting unused food purchased from the cafeteria (e.g., milk, string cheese) and/or unopened store-bought food (e.g., crackers) during the spring semester
Our kids' role -> Kids are asked to leave food they may otherwise toss in the garbage and instead put it off in the Food for Others fridge in the cafeteria.
Our volunteers' role -> Once a week (Mondays or Tuesdays), we are asking for a volunteer to collect the food and drop it off at Food For Others (1 mile away).
Our collective Impact -> In addition to minimizing food waste, we are helping 75,000 Fairfax County (and Fairhill families) who are food insecure. On a weekly basis last year, we collected hundreds of milk cartons, string cheese packets, crackers, yogurts and more.
Sign up here to volunteer! Questions???? Call/text//email Anika Marpaka (anikaamin@yahoo.com or 703 855 0500)

Join Career and Transition Services (CTS) to learn about planning for life in and after high school!
It’s never too early or too late to start preparing for your future. We want to help you start planning for a successful transition from school to life as a young adult. Ensuring postsecondary success of our students with disabilities is dependent on what is known as transition planning. Please join CTS and other support service personnel for an evening focused on planning for the future.
You will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of representatives from CTS programs and services for students with disabilities, as well as learn about short and long-term postsecondary supports, employment, postsecondary education considerations, Supported Decision Making, and student self-determination as an evidence-based predictor of post school success.
The schedule for the evening is:

Volunteer Registration Update for Families
Volunteer Registration Update for Families
FCPS now requires all school volunteers to register through the new Volunteer FCPS system. Please use THIS link to access Fairhill specifically.
- Volunteers must create a profile in the Volunteer FCPS portal and complete the required steps, including a short orientation.
- FCPS covers the cost of any required background checks.
- Volunteer opportunities are organized by levels based on frequency and involvement.
We strongly encourage families to register as a Level 2 volunteer, even if you plan to volunteer only occasionally.
- Level 2 status is required for field trip chaperones and allows greater flexibility to support school activities.
We greatly appreciate our volunteers and thank you for partnering with us to support our students and keep our school community safe. No families from Fairhill will be turned away from volunteering for the 2025-2026 school year; however, starting in 2026, all families will be required to register to volunteer with FCPS.
